"I understand fully that civility and courtesy have all but disappeared from our popular culture and from many aspects of our public life, but the traditional pol to pol post-election call is still in order."

Why?

” ‘... but the traditional pol to pol post-election call is still in order.’

“Why?”

Because we live in what purports to be a civilized society. Because in politics there is such a thing as good sportsmanship, however observed in the breach. Because NOT to call to concede, congratulate, and wish well is a sign of a very small person.

AND because no one forced JD to run. He has had some successful campaigns under his belt. He’s a professional politician who knows the game and the rules. He knew the odds of going up against a long-time incumbent. It was his choice to run.

AND you can bet your bottom dollar HE received a concession call in every successful campaign he ran, and would have expected that call from McCain had this race gone the other way.

No one is saying JD has to endorse McCain, but he should do the gentlemanly thing and make the call.
