My son, a Navy Captain, sent in his resignation last month, which means he'll be out of the service sometime next Spring.

He'll have about 24 years in and was going to stay to 30, but I guess he's had enough of the current situation.

Since his job was Top Secret and I never knew what he was doing, I can't say whether it was necessary or not, but he worked 12-14 hour days so it must have been something.

Thank him for his service through tough times for me! I wish him the best success in civilian life.

Minor correction - your son requested retirement - and can be released next Spring.

If an officer wants out of the service prior to having 20 years, he resigns his commission - essentially turns it in.

An officer with 20 or more years can retire ...and is entitled to retain the title of the rank the officer has. So your son is entitled to state - Name, CAPT, USN(ret).

Thanks to him for his service.

Mike
Navy - retired.
