An engineering firm that consulted on the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis that collapsed three years ago has agreed to pay $52.4 million to victims.
San Francisco-based URS Corp. had been sued by more than 100 people. They accused the company of missing warning signs on the bridge before its rush-hour collapse into the Mississippi River on Aug. 1, 2007. Thirteen people died and 145 were injured.
URS had argued that its engineers didn't know about a design flaw in the bridge that made it vulnerable when it collapsed.
"Aug. 1, 2007, marked the greatest manmade catastrophe our state has ever seen," said attorney Chris Messerly.

As I recall from the news coverage at the time, it was BUSH’S FAULT!
Nice payday for some huckster attorneys!
I think Sen Di Fi’s hubby is big time stockholder/owner of URS
You recall correctly.....
All covered by Professional Liability Insurance.
I used to be in concrete/steel construction years ago and drove over the bridge 1 week before it collapsed.
Seeing the holes in the deck convinced me someone screwed up.
I also think that MN-DOT has some culpability. For decades that bridge was drenched in de-icing salt every winter which would likely contribute to rusting and metal failure. I drove over that bridge many times a month in the late 1970s and during the winter a trip to Minneapolis always meant your car would be white with road salt.
