Delay had two processes of investigation going on , one from the Abramhoff scandal which was federal. Delays Aid took gifts from Abramoff, Delay did not.

One Dem County prosecutor in Texas said DeLay was laundering campaign money , when all DeLay had done was to transfer funds from one account (state) to a federal campaign account, and back. This is normal practise. It is not money laundering.

They had to shop three juries in Texas before they could get one to return an indictment.

Because of GOP party rules, anyone being “investigated” for a criminal offence has to resign their seat, while in the Dem party the rule is that they must be convicted of any offence.Delay had to resign his seat, and also Mccain and a bunch of RINOS made sure he did not get access to any possibility of a legal defence fund.

It was the most egregious move that conservatives could suffer. Without DeLay as a whip in the house, the RINOS were able to divide and conquer the GOP, and the conservative legislative agenda was abandoned by the Senate in the work of the notorious Gang of 14, including McCain.

DeLay has been exhonerated on his federal investigation after 6 years of false charges, and now he turns to have the false charges against him in Texas dismissed. This is a Dem abuse of our legal system, and a travesty to the Congress who lost a good man, feared by the Dems, when he was needed most.

Welcome back Tom. Heres to you re-entering the fray just when we need conservative strength as much as we ever have!

I never read about that, I'd like to have a link to that, I have some 'moderates' on another board telling me that I'm a dumb ignorant redneck that gives 'conservatives' a bad name for 'defending' a 'sleazebag' like Tom Delay.. LMAO I know they're FOS. They also say Rush Limbaugh gives 'conservatives' a bad name.

One Dem County prosecutor in Texas said DeLay was laundering campaign money ...

That was Ronnie Earle, Travis County District Attorney. Since the State Capital is in Austin (Travis County) the District Attorney has jurisdiction over all such political cases. Ronnie is a Democrat who ran his own little political fiefdom for years and reveled in his power. He was getting back at DeLay for helping the state Republicans get a fair redistricting done in the state. The Democrats had been in charge for years and had gerrymandered districts to assure continued Democrat control. DeLay helped remedy that.

An interesting aspect of the case was that the law they finally got a grand jury to indict him for breaking wasn't even the law at the time. It was passed after the event and was applied retroactively.

It was a political lynching, pure and simple. Do the Democrats suffer for such dirty shenanigans? No! It is expected of them but the Republicans must be pure as the driven snow or they are ground into the dirt.

Thanks for the excellent summary.

The message from rats to conservatives these past 20 years has been, “If you are an effective conservative, we will destroy you and your family.”

Until we are willing to abuse the judicial system every bit as much, we will continue to find our leaders run out of office. Palin is a recent example. Expect some garbage soon on Rep Boehner.

Ronnie Earle, that corrupt Democrat prosecutor who engaged in Nifongism, resigned from the case and even lost his primary run for Lt. Governor.

Partisan witchhunts continue.

It was my understanding that Texas passed the one remaining law Delay is accused of breaking after the event. It wasn’t even a crime when he did it.

Thank you for posting a very accurate synopsis of DeLay getting the full Saul Alinsky treatment. They got rid of DeLay just as they did Newt - and if Boehner is our next Speaker, they’ll try to do it again.
