Federal authorities seized more than 100 fraudulent identification documents during an investigation into human smuggling, according to court documents.
The U.S. Border Patrols Rio Grande Valley Fraud, Intelligence, Smuggling and Terrorist Group also arrested one man, one woman and an underage female as part of the operation.
Ivan Anibal Ramirez, 31, was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with trafficking fraudulent identifying documents, court documents show.
On Thursday afternoon, Ramirez went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan who ordered he be held without bond.
The Border Patrol agents arrived at Ramirez residence on Wednesday afternoon after receiving intelligence about possible human smuggling. The address of the house was blacked out of the criminal complaint.
According the court documents, the agents went to the house and after speaking with Ramirez, got permission to search the residence. During a search of the attic, the agents found a purse with more than 126 identifying documents, including social security cards, resident alien cards, birth certificates, naturalization certificates, passport book and cards, Texas driver licenses and IDs.
Border Patrol agents also arrested Claudia Alicia Saucedo Garcia, who was charged with illegal entry. The agents also found a teenaged female who also didnt have legal resident status.
According to court documents, Saucedo is being held by federal authorities as a material witness in the case against Ramirez.
Court records show that once in custody, Ramirez told investigators that he would supply undocumented immigrants with fraudulent documents in order to get them past checkpoints.
