By extension of the above saying, it is suicidal to give every citizen one vote. There are those who, after deep consideration, will cast their votes for the betterment of American society and then there are those who will vote to satisfy their own selfish material wants.

The latter group will always be triumphant. That’s how socialism came to be.

It was only land owners and men once upon a time. I'd also go for a Robert A. Heinlein type of Subject/Citizenry too.

Maybe we will get a chance to do it over and better... but I doubt it.
