Dems don’t resign over statements like this. He must have been expecting to be defeated in Nov and wanted to save the expense and work of campaigning.

Only Republicans resign when pressured by public opinion.

Of course if public opinion threatens to defeat the whole Democrat Party, they could be convincing in pushing him to quit.

At the state and local levels, there are some dimowits who still have a conscience. At the national level, not so much.
