BEIRUT — Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Murr Wednesday said he would reject any American military assistance to the Lebanese army if it comes with conditions that the weapons not be used against Israel.

Murr was commenting on the decision by a US congressman to suspend $100 million of military aid to Lebanon over concerns the weapons could be turned on Israel and that Hezbollah may have influence over the Lebanese army.

He stated that those who want to help the Lebanese army but place conditions on how their funds or weapons are used, should keep the money.

The defense minister's comments came after another Lebanese official also called on Lebanon's friends to help and not take positions that would damage its efforts to build its own military.

If I were advising this guy I’d tell him, “Sure, tell the US you won’t use them on Israel, what will that Kenyan do if you do use them on Israel.”

Why do we want to help the Lebanese Army in the first place?

Are they at war with someone?
If they go to war with someone, who will it be?
Why should we send them money? What good will come from it?

We cannot buy the loyalty of this country with money, they will take the money and use it to kill Americans if they get the chance. It is pure stupidity to send them a quarter.

The U.S. Should not be providing weapons to Lebanon since they will not only use them against Israel directly, they will probably just turn them over to Hamas and every other terror group residing nearby.

Lebanon is too unstable a country to provide weapons to.

It would seem that I agree with the Lebanese Defense Minister.

I got no problem with this. Let’s just not give them the arms.

Agreed. If these poxy little third world areas like Lebanon and Israel wish to fight, let them fully fund their own weapons. Neither deserves aid.
