Democrat Dannel Malloy Wins Primary; Ned Lamont Makes Concession Speech; Republican Tom Foley Ahead (as of 9:54pm)

In a major come-from-behind upset, Democrat Dannel Malloy won the gubernatorial primary Tuesday night as Greenwich cable TV entrepreneur Ned Lamont conceded the race in a speech in Bridgeport.

Malloy had been behind in the polls for more than six months, but he roared back with a strategy of targeting "prime'' voters who have a history of voting in Democratic primaries.

On the Republican side, Greenwich multi-millionaire Tom Foley was ahead in the early results in the GOP primary. Both Malloy and Foley had been ahead since the results started pouring in.

Malloy was holding a 58 percent to 42 percent lead with 47 percent of the precincts reporting, statewide. The polling places represented in the early results were mostly in small towns, spread throughout the state. Lamont had expected to poll well in cities and large towns, especially in and around Hartford and New Haven...

I am THRILLED that we are rid of that nutcase Ned Lamont, but worried that Malloy could win in November vs any Republican. McMahon's win is no surprise, of course.

Tom Foley worries me... he's got lots of baggage, ie the arrest. None of the gubernatorial candidates appealed to me, to be honest.

Last I saw on CTN, Nancy Wyman was trouncing Mary Glassman in the Lt. Gov. race. Janet Peckinpaugh was way ahead of Daria Novak and the other guy in the 2nd district. Ann Brickley was way ahead of the guy with the Polish last name (I don't know a thing about him).

Perhaps we could use this thread as the CT primary live thread rather than the CT page... choice is up to you.

Novak never stood a chance against Peckinpaugh, being the behind the scenes OP(formerly the GOP) elitist hand picked candidate. The OP elites did everything behind the scenes possible to ensure her victory.

Oh, I had no idea, LOL! thank you, Sarah Barracuda for that inside info.

I know nothing about the WWE / WWF except the HQ is located in a really big building off I-95 in Stamford, CT. ;-)

No problem..Me and the WWE go way back. Been watching it off and on for years. As far as Linda McMahon goes, I really don’t know what to think of her politically

Frankly, the canidadates for the CT governorship have A LOT to be desired. Frankly, I was not crazy for Foley, and it was about the arrest. Grebeal I did not know too much of. Fedele at least, he has a sucessful business. I sense it will be Malloy who will take the all the marbles in November. But at least the nutty Lamont guy is gone. Lost my respect for him when Mary Glassman, who would have been his Lt Gov. came on the stage during a concert of the Podunk Bluegrass Music Festival spouting a Lamont for Governor button, greeting the performer doing the music.

I admit I didn't follow this race very closely (I'm in the 1st district, and close to towns in the 5th district, which our town used to be a part of). I heard there was a debate, but Novak refused to take part... is that true? Not a good idea if so.

How do you think Peckinpaugh will do vs. Courtney? Is Janet anything close to a conservative??

It's a darn shame about Novak... I was rooting for her. I saw a fair amount of Daria Novak coverage here on FR. She seems to be a true conservative.

Rick Santorum was on Greta tonight. He's known Linda McMahon for years. Spoke highly of her. Before he was elected to the House in 1990, he spent two years working as a lawyer for her in Philly.

In 2006, The Conservative Union gave Simmons a rating of 52%--thirteen points worse than McCain. He was a non-starter and as Schiff laid back and expected to be annointed from the internet its a surprise Linda didn't win by more.

But that's history now. The danger is Blumenthal. Guy scares me. He's not just an ideologue. Watching him going after small business it's obvious he enjoys destroying people. Cruel is an apt description.

Sarah,

I got all the way back with the WWE when Bob Backlund was the champion the first time (1984) before he lost to the Iron Sheik. That was when WWF at that time first got on the USA Network. WWF replaced Southwest Championship Wrestling from San Antonio on the USA Network in that time slot.

Do you remember back when the Iraq war started and Vince had “Harvard Chris”-the bad guy, debating Scott Steiner-the good guy. Harvard Chris (Cuz if you go to Harvard you are evil) was anti-iraq war, and Steiner was pro-Iraq war, it was hilarious!
