I read that he was making $60,000 a year, which isn't bad. That more than the median salary for professors at many colleges, and I doubt that Thornton had a Ph.D.

I saw USA Today's write-up of the story--they kept inserting "allegedly" every time they referred to his stealing (even though it was on videotape). That his victims were racists didn't require any "allegedly" caveat as I recall. 3 of the 8 whites he killed were not on his list of supposed racists, but to the media they were all deserving of their fate.
