Mad Lib of the Day: Al Franken Invoking Pelosi in South Dakota
Useful Info Nation Blog ^ | 8/09/2010 | Thomas Bryan

Today's Mad Lib of the Day was a tough choice between Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin, a representative from South Dakota and Stuart Smalley. The struggling Herseth-Sandlin brought a more liberal Smalley in to campaign for her in a mostly red state.

And apparently Smalley has a problem breathing in the political atmosphere of a state that is ready to throw Herseth-Sandlin out of office.

From South Dakota Politics:

Al Franken: a vote for Herseth-Sandlin is a vote for Nancy Pelosi

Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin brought Al Franken to Pine Ridge this weekend. Why you ask? Good question, says I. Franken is a very divisive figure. He can't quite stop being a clown now that he is in the upper chamber of the United States Congress.

I think the strategy here is indicative of the Democrat's problems across the map. HS can't win over many Republicans, and she's about as popular among independents as a pay toilet in Scotland. Her only hope is to gin up the Democrat base. Pine Ridge is that. Maybe Al Franken wowed them.

And Democrats keep saying the Republicans don't have any ideas. Then they call an idea like this a good one?

Smalley then brings out his secret weapon:

I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time syncing up with this story. Franken was campaigning in South Dakota? I thought he was from Minnesota? They don't have any far-left fruitcake politicians in South Dakota to campaign for Nancy Pelosi?

I must be slow.

I wonder if her will team up with his old buddy Tom Davis and they can put on the gorilla costumes to campaign in.

Better yet, Franken and Davis can put on a donkey costume to show their support for Franken’s party.

Two guesses which end Franken should be in...the first one doesn't count.

CORRECTION:
‘wonder if HE will team up’..not “her”

I've always said that Blue Dog Democrats are divided into three groups:

  1. One third have moderately conservative moorings and will vote with us on certain issues. Colin Peterson of Minnesota, Gene Taylor of Mississippi and possibly David Boren of Oklahoma would fit into this group.
  2. The middle third are basically go along to get along types. They will vote with conservatives less often and, generally with the OK of their leadership. Jason Altmeier of Pennsylvania, whose seat was bought and paid for by George Soros, is an example of this type.
  3. Finally, there is the idealogical left who do nothing more with the Blue Dog label than to wear it as a fig leaf at election time. Herseth-Sandlin is clearly one of these.

Generally, you can find this information in ratings by conservative organizations such as American Conservative Union.

The true blue dogs will vote with us at least 40% of the time. Some actually do better than RINO republicans. The go-along-to-get-along types will break the 20% to 25% range.

The hard left in the third group can't even do that. In fact, if they didn't have the restraint of a conservative constituency, their record would be indistinguishable from ultraleft moonbats like Shelia Jackson Lee or Barney Frank.

How big is the felon vote in SD? That’s what won it for Fool Franken in MN.

It’s not the felon vote that needs watching. It is the vote from the reservations. They tend to always report in last so they can be adjusted. Seems the sovereign nations have special procedures. Someone told me that they can vote twice on some reservations. Once under the Anglo name and again under the Native American name. Sounds unbelievable, and I was unable to confirm the info.
