Obama using Andy Griffith to deceive seniors
Washington Examiner ^ | Aug 8, 2010 | Lawrence Hunter

At a cost of $700,000 of taxpayers’ money, Andy Griffith is on the air peddling President Obama’s propaganda about how wonderful ObamaCare is going to be for Medicare. He doesn’t have a clue as to what he is talking about.

The Obama administration itself released a report this week confessing that ObamaCare cuts $575 billion from Medicare over the first 10 years alone. The cuts will soar to $126 billion for just one year by 2019.

Obama is also trying to hide how high the Medicare cuts accumulate over the longer term by delaying the annual report of the Medicare Board of Trustees. That report is usually out every year by April or May. But this year the report is still nowhere to be found.

However, budget documents released during the ObamaCare debate indicate that the Medicare cuts will total $2.9 trillion over the first 20 years.

Most commentators have assumed that Obama and congressional Democrats would never go through with such draconian cuts in Medicare. The expectation has been that they would reverse most or all these Medicare cuts, just adding further to the deficit.

But given that the Obama administration is out with a report this week openly bragging about these supposed “savings” to Medicare due to ObamaCare, how can they just reverse such “savings” later this year?

So now, Obama sends out Andy Griffith to say in his propaganda commercial, “This year, like always, we’ll have our guaranteed [Medicare] benefits.” Obama thinks he can play seniors with this line that ObamaCare does not involve any cuts in “guaranteed” Medicare benefits.

Actually, based on legal precedent, there are no “guaranteed” benefits in Medicare. But that is not the real reason why this rhetoric is so misleading and, indeed, abusive...

Saw one commercial. Hardly recognized Andy at all. He came off like a babbling, senile stodge. Unfortunately, I don’t doubt he’ll reassure some seniors. Sad if that’s his final “act”.

I don't see Andy Griffith having any credibility. People will realize that he is just another Hollywood liberal, perhaps liberal lite spewing leftist propaganda.

I remember when he did some campaign ads for Jim Hunt in NC against Senator Jessie Helms in 1984. The ads seemed to have little or no influence. Helms won anyway, thank God.

All these years, no one realized that “Lonesome” Rhodes was actually a type cast.

Andy has an excuse. Senility. Ron Howard has no such excuse.

Perhaps if Ron Howard had not been a screen star since childhood and had been compelled to work for a living like the rest of us he would feel defferently.

My mother always liked his shows. She was shocked to see this.

She got militant and said she would never watch any of his reruns again.

He didn’t fool her.

Andy - Why didn't your show have any gay characters? Or illegal immigrants? Or Muslims?

Seriously, what percentage of seniors would fall for this crap instead of saying “what happened to him? He’s gone off his rocker!”

Andy has an excellent healthcare plan via his union, the Screen Actors’ Guild, and I doubt he’s doing the ad for free; based on union minimums, I estimate he’s getting well into the 6 figures, at least. Our tax dollars at work!!

Having said that, I bet there are plenty of seniors who will see the ad and will buy into it because they WANT to believe it. And anyway, Andy wouldn’t lie, would he?

Andy “Griffith” is a far cry from Sheriff Andy “Taylor”...don’t get the two confused.

"Andy has an excuse. Senility."

While it might be tempting to keep our memories of the amiable Andy Taylor intact, there were actually "tells" in "The Andy Griffith Show."

It is rather common knowledge that Griffith was very influential in the casting and writing that went into the show. There is one episode I recall, where Andy is giving Opie a "talking to" about work ethic, and the fact that Opie was stealing food to help some vagrant.

In the dialog, Opie asks how people will live who don't work. Andy's reply (which I confess I cannot quote verbatim) was essentially that "we pay taxes to take care of people who don't work."

I remember being shocked when I heard these words coming from Andy, as it was not only an anti-capitalist sentiment, but directly in contravention of the New Testament Epistles of Paul (2 Thessalonians 3-10) "Let he who will not work, let him also not eat."

Despite his folksy manner, Griffith has always been an elitist and a Socialist.

Frances Bavier essentially portrayed the role of Red-baiter in her memorable appearance in The Day the Earth Stood Still

"I don't think that he comes from outer space at all! I think he comes from someplace much closer. And you know where I mean...."
