Rep. Charles Rangel told Harlem leaders Saturday he signed a plea deal on ethics charges but that the GOP pushed for a trial.
"He said he had signed an agreement. He was ready to go but I guess politics came into play," said Assemblyman Keith Wright (D-Manhattan), one of about 50 leaders gathered for a Harlem district meeting Saturday.
Another attendee said Rangel implied, "It was Republicans that didn't want an agreement" and that he signed a deal before the ethics committee released its report last month.
Rangel, who faces 13 ethics violations, said earlier this week that he won't settle to make others in Congress "comfortable."
A spokesman for Rangel wouldn't confirm if a proposed deal was signed, citing legal restrictions, though a deal wouldn't be binding unless both sides signed the agreement.
The House Ethics Committee didn't immediately return a request for comment.
Rangel has suggested to friends that he's still willing to reach a deal and admit to some charges to avoid a messy public trial

It’s bull. They offered a deal..he said no..then at the 11th hour, when he realized things weren’t going his way, he said, OK...I’ll take door 1. And it was too late. Screw him.
It already has. There have been articles aplenty wondering if members of the Congressional Black Caucus were being targeted since Maxine Waters has her own difficulties to deal with.

Even now, he won’t say a word against his own party leadership, who are the ones who are actually bringing him up on ethics charges.
But how could this be taking place at Obama’s orders?

That must be why the leftist shills on TV are saying that D’s are “transparent” and holding a trial to take care of any ethics issues. In other words, they were for transparency before they were against it.
Let’s make a deal.
A REAL DEAL.
Obama shows us his long form birth certificate that he has been hiding and Rangel gets off the hook.
Make that deal offer and then let’s see what happens next!
