44% of South Carolina Republicans Have Unfavorable Opinion of Lindsey Graham
Rasmussen Reports ^ | Aug 6, 2010 | Rasmussen

A lot more South Carolina Republicans are unhappy with GOP Senator Lindsey Graham these days.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in South Carolina finds that 54% of Palmetto State Republicans still have a favorable opinion of Graham. But 44% view the senator unfavorably, and that’s up 13 points from December

These findings include 29% of GOP voters with a Very Favorable opinion of Graham and 22% with a Very Unfavorable view.

Sixty percent (60%) of South Carolina Republicans think their party should be more like the state’s other Republican senator, Jim DeMint, than like Graham. That’s a nine-point increase from December. Just 27% believe the party should be more like Graham, and 14% more are undecided.

Ninety-two percent (92%) of the state’s Republicans have a favorable opinion of DeMint, including 61% with a Very Favorable view of him.

DeMint currently holds a 42-point lead in his bid for reelection to the Senate this year

Graham has angered conservative Republicans in the state by his efforts to work with Democrats on some issues, notably global warming. His recent decision to vote for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan prompted another county GOP committee to censure him this week.

The survey of 500 Likely Voters in South Carolina was conducted on July 29, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Among all voters in the state, 51% view Graham favorably, including 21% with a Very Favorable opinion. Forty-two percent (42%) regard him unfavorably, including 20% Very Unfavorable.

By comparison, 69% view DeMint favorably, while only 24% hold an unfavorable opinion of him. This includes 35% Very Favorable and 16% Very Unfavorable.

When all voters are asked, rather than just Republicans, 32% say the South Carolina Republican Party should be more like Graham, and 40% say more like DeMint. Twenty-eight percent (28%) aren’t sure.

Graham was elected to his second term in the Senate in 2008 with 58% of the vote. He doesn’t stand for reelection until 2014.

I suspect that most "Likely Voters" in SC are not paying much attention to Pandsey since there are so many other elections this year.

With a little voter education, as will happen in 2014 when he runs for the last time, I suspect the percentages would be devastating.

I am sure the 44% is an understatement.

Hey Lindsey, what are you planning to do in your next career.

Right, and when he does run again, he would be quite comfortable pulling a Charlie Crist if he needed too.

Hey Lindsey, what are you planning to do in your next career.

You think he might be any good at selling insurance? Maybe State Farm or Allstate?

He does have a law degree so he could go do that.

Quite frankly, I don't care what he does as long as it's not in the US Senate.

Too many NE liberals moving into the South to escape their high taxes and lack of liberty. Problem is, once they get here they start voting for the same garbage that ran them out of their homes. SC and FL are far less conservative than we used to be. But the South is on the Rise.

If I had a choice of Alvin Greene, and Lindsey Graham...frankly, I’d vote for Alvin. I suspect that fifty percent of the state would also do the same.

In a year when the TEA party is showing the disgust with liberalism and big government, Graham sides with big government. It’s no wonder his unfavorable rating has gone up to 44%. The wonder is that it has not gone higher.
