Obama urges labor to be patient
The Washington Times ^ | August 4, 2010 | Kara Rowlands

Trying to reclaim some of the excitement among unions who helped him win election in 2008, President Obama on Wednesday implored members of the AFL-CIO to be patient with the pace of the recovery and warned them they and the economy would suffer far worse under Republican rule. "I'm sure you're talking to a lot of your locals, I'm sure they're feeling like, 'Boy, change has not happened fast enough,' " he said. "I am happy as president of the United States to take responsibility for making decisions that are going to put us in a stronger position down the road. They need to know that."

Labor is a key Democratic voting bloc, and one that Democrats will need to turn out in November if they hope to stem major losses in both houses of Congress. Mr. Obama's remarks, made before the federation's executive council, come one day after AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told workers he knows they're frustrated but said electing Democrats is key to advancing their agenda.

Mr. President, they were employed under Republicans and lost their jobs because of forced Democrat giveaways to illegals.

Labor has lost a lot of power by failing to expand successfully into the white collar area of employment—bank tellers, clerical, accounting, etc.

Things are really bad for the Dems if Barry is having to beg big labor to stick with him.

OH Horse-hockey - How can borrowing ALL that money now put you in a better position down the road? Piling on more and more debt is no way to improve your future!

He, like the unions he represents, have no vision of the future. They are just after all they can get today, tomorrow be damned.

`under republican rule` ?? America has NO RULERS! damned sure don’t need a socialist Kenyan ruler!

Are they going to eat their own or is this just more scripted theater?

Yep, and Obama speaks their language. I’ll bet he feels right at home with Trumka.

Yup. But they should look at the other side of change. Once America is bankrupted, where they going to look for jobs after the big change! After that the hope chapter moves in.

I’d bet that it’s scripted theater.

Trumka and other union thugs are unhappy because they’re not getting what they wanted fast enough, probably realize they won’t get it if they don’t already have it by January.

He means put Unions in a better spot by making us pay for the promises cities and states made that they could never afford.

I guess our meme has stuck. The reporter uses the term ‘rule’. I can’t see a quote from the President confirming that that is the word he used. If he did, we have some kind of opportunity here. Pubbies really should emphasize that Republicans GOVERN and Democrats RULE. Now, as a supposedly voting citizen, which status would YOU prefer??

Labor has lost a lot of power by failing to expand successfully into the white collar area of employment—bank tellers, clerical, accounting, etc.

That’s why they are so desperate to get Card Check (and why they are going to keep yanking Barry’s shorthairs ever closer to the fire until they get it)
