COSTA MESA – Civil rights groups – including the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California – filed a class action lawsuit Monday against federal officials, demanding they create a system for determining the mental competency of those in immigration detention who represent themselves.
It is the latest legal attempt by the ACLU, Public Counsel Law Center and Sullivan Cromwell LLP and others to defend those with severe mental disabilities who are held in immigration detention.

Are there many illegal immigrants with severe mental problems?
For the love of God, shut the doors already. When people had to come in through Ellis Island, weren’t they turned away for certain mental and physical illnesses? I know that people needed to have jobs and sponsors. How did these criminals even break in if they’re so mentally ill?
We have enough of our own mentally ill, it’s truly depressing to look around and see so many, and that’s not even counting the Marxist voters.

Considering how difficult it’s supposed to be to get here (through the mountains, deserts, etc) I kinda doubt it.
That's the analogy I always use. If the lifeboat is full and taking on more passengers will only cause the demise of all onboard, how 'ethical' is it to take on more? I've yet to find a liberal who can answer that question intelligently.

I always thought if the ACLU had to pay their own costs that they would be proportionally discerning when choosing cases.

Everytime they file a lawsuit, the government (us) pays their expenses. If they had to shoulder the expense themselves, you would not hear a peep from them.

Mexico requires that immigrants into their country contribute to the economy, but we’re supposed to accept them because they are handicapped?

I could be wrong, but it seems I remember learning that when you sue the Federal Government, they pay the costs...maybe not...but the ACLU is still a commie racket.
