Dewhurst: New federal health care law will bust Texas' budget

WASHINGTON – Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst warned this morning that the new federal health care legislation will bust Texas’ budget – saddling state taxpayers with $27 billion in extra costs over the next decade.

“That’s an astounding number for us,” Dewhurst told the Texas State Society over breakfast, including a half-dozen members of Congress. “We’re on the hook for all those folks we’ve been trying to get to sign up for Medicaid.”

Doubling the state’s Medicaid rolls, he said, will mean that health care claims an ever-bigger share of the state budget. And that segment has already grown from one-quarter of the budget to one-third in the last seven years.

Obamacare is unconstitutional since Article 1 Section 8 does not specifically list regulating health care as an enumerated power! The people are not bound to comply with an unconstitutional act! It is time for Americans to defend the Constitution by openly defying this marxist regime!

The feds may be able to force businesses to cover this based on the twisted interpretations of the interstate commerce clause and the 16th amendment. But what happens when a state just says "no!"? What happens if they decide covering everyone the federales want them to cover is far too expensive and it would be cheaper to abandon federal aid and just cover those who the state determines really need assistance and the level of that assistance on its own?

Most of the controls the federal government has over the states is through the threat to cut off various subsidies, but this may finally be a case where the subsidy isn't enough and dropping out of the system entirely may be cheaper.
