SEIU Arizona Member Fernando Villalobos Speaks Out Against SB1070
SEIU.org ^ | July 22, 2010 | Fernando "Anchor Baby" Villalobos

Posted on 07/25/2010 9:14:14 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Most of us wouldn't even be Americans if it weren't for immigration.

I was born in Kearney, Arizona--a small town between Phoenix and Tucson. But my own parents came from Mexico. They came, like so many people before them, to make a better life for their kids. My dad worked in the copper mines, and my mom worked at Motorola.

Today, I've achieved what my parents hoped for. I'm a proud Arizonan with three kids. I work for the Town of Gilbert Water Department, making sure our hydrants are safe, water lines are clear, and our system is running smoothly. Without a doubt, I'm one of the lucky ones. But with the political storm brewing on SB1070, I'm starting to think my luck may have run out.

Even though I'm a U.S. citizen and a native Arizonan, since this extreme immigration law passed, I'm starting to feel like maybe some people think I don't belong here.

Just last weekend a sheriff's car pulled me over and asked if I was speeding. And then they asked if I had any covering over my taillights. Now, I'm pretty sure they didn't clock me for speeding--since they didn't even write me a ticket. And I don't know how they could have seen my taillights--since they were driving in the opposite direction. But what they could see as I was coming down the road was my face and my last name - Villalobos - proudly stenciled across my back windshield together with my son's football jersey number.

The police asked for my registration and driver's license - so they saw I'm a citizen, and they let me go. But I felt targeted for being a Mexican-American.

That same weekend, some stranger at a restaurant approached me and my friends and used a slur you don't hear that much anymore - "Wetback." He told me I'd better start carrying my papers around now that SB1070's been passed. I felt attacked.

They may say this law is aimed at solving illegal immigration, but it feels to me like it's aimed right at me and my family.

I don't really care much for politics, and it seems to me that the politicians who passed SB1070 aren't really interested in immigration reform. They're just trying to get more votes from people who want to see some action taken on the problem. But this is the wrong action - way wrong.

We need to stop SB1070 before it leads to division and hate in our communities. No one who works hard and contributes to their community deserves abuse just because of the way they look, the cars they drive, or their last names. Arizona needs to do better. I know Arizona can do better.

First COMMENT to this SEIU article:

Oh boo-hoo, cry me a river dude. Let's see, we have over 40 million ILLEGAL immigrants in this country. Most are here to make some money and send it back to their families. I commend them for their personal responsibility. Many are here to use my country like a toilet, they can effing die.

But all of them, every single one, committed a crime the first step they took across the border. They slapped previous millions of legal immigrants, including my family, who jumped through all of the hoops to become Americans.

These ILLEGALS are running up tabs in the 100s of billions by cashing in on our kindness. They are destroying entire states by being leeches. And you? You pussy out because you got stopped.

Tough toenails bud. I could care less about myself getting profiled here in CO if it means these ILLEGALS will start to get deported.

Another thing, what's up with the union leadership actively seeking to not only go beyond promoting amnesty, but they are putting ILLEGALS in union jobs??

All they care about are the dues man, get the damn dues to hand over to democrats to get more democrats elected so they can get the unions more power which the un ion leadership uses to get more ILLEGALS.

Yeah 3 cheers for Andy Stern, he's living like a king on your dues and promoting more ILLEGAL immigration.

Screw SEIU. They are tied at the hip with ACORN and close to La Raza. SEIU is the illegal alien union.

I hope the SEIU goes on strike over this. Then the Governor will be justified in firing the whole crooked lot of them.

Illegals aren't immigrants, they're invaders.

And all this stuff about providing a "pathway to citizenship" is a sick joke. These folks aren't interested in becoming Americans. They might take American citizenship, but they won't become Americans.

Also, there's one thing the Ruling Class overlooks in their open borders, cheap nannies, plans. The American people highly respect and value American Citizenship. We resent terribly that the elitists are giving that Americanness away for low, cheap, manipulative goals. That's one part of the resistance to this "comprehensive immigration reform" push that no one brings up.

They just don't get it.

I am calling BS on this <”Just last weekend a sheriff’s car pulled me over and asked if I was speeding”

That line has been used too many times. NO way to prove it but it incites the illegals and anyone who thinks coming here illegally is ok

They came, like so many people before them, to make a better life for their kids.

The same could be said for every single Nazi that marched into Poland.

What? This guy doesn't carry a valid AZ drivers license? That is all that is required to prove (in AZ) that you are in the country legally.

Who in the world talks like that, outside of a "B" movie?

This guy is a liar, looking for 15 minutes of fame and a high 5 at the union hall.

"But I felt targeted for being a Mexican-American."

Who's fault is that? Should we not enforce the immigration laws, because of YOUR feelings? I feel the IRS is targeting me, I don't think the IRS should enforce the tax laws.

Those at fault are number one, US President's and Congress' going back before Reagan, as none of them enforced the border. Reagan made a deal with Congress to have an amnesty in return for securing the border. Congress never did secure the border. The Mexican government is at fault for driving out tens of millions of its own citizens out of Mexico. They've provided information, aid and consular help in the US to their citizens forced into the States.

The American People have had it. No more. We don't care about your "feelings" of being targeted. Tough toenails, bud. We're not going to lose OUR country, because of your feelings.

SEIU should be taken out in the desert and given a map to Chicago and left to find their own way home.

They ASKED if you were speeding and if you had any covering on your tail lights? I’ve been told by police that I was speeding, or that I had a tail light out, but I’ve never been asked “asked”. And they couldn’t see your tail lights but they were able to carefully observe a stencil on your back glass as they were coming toward you? You’re full of crap, liar.

My family history is essentially the same and I have a huge mixed ethnic extended family.

My position is people like this whiner need to say, if stopped, my pleasure for my country and should scream loud and long to get illegal immigrants out of this country before they destroy the very opportunities which he received.
