I am not a nuclear scientist nor do I play one, but common sense tells me the best course of action is to release the pressure by opening the valves that have been previously attached to hoses leading to ships above the well and drain it as quick as possible.

Nah too simple.

You probably don’t realize how unstable that well head is after taking a beating for 90 days. It’s best to work on the relief wells and begin the drilling of other well heads in this oil field to reduce pressure.

If for no other reason than to get more oil to sell — that’s the point of drilling in the first place.

yes, open the valves, get the oil to the ships above, sell oil.

I believe they will need to open the cap back up. May should try to capture until the relief wells are in place.

I agree. I'd bleed off the pressure into tankers.

What's to be gained by keeping that huge pressurized reservoir in the ground?
