This is a politically difficult situation for BP. Keeping the well closed gives the appearance of “it’s fixed”. Opening and siphoning gives the appearance of BP greed in “gotta get the oil”. Hmm. Of the two options, I say open the well and start siphoning to prevent outlying seepage and potential well ocean floor implosion, but does BP have the logistics in place to capture it? I don’t know.

I might open it up and relieve some of the pressure based on the readings we have seen....and yes....they can capture the oil...a lot of it....OIL is the purpose of a well...get all you can...

The problem with opening and closing is just like your faucet....there's a kick to it...your house pressure is zip compared to this rig.

I can see what BP is saying....just keep quiet for a while....and I think there's a wise man somewhere telling them to wait....and it's NOT a politician. Maybe they're considering a shift on the sea floor...maybe they're getting seismic info that is making them skeptical.

Personally, I'd be a wreck...and I think everyone who's on this job is a mess...not sleeping etc etc....
