Riots hit French city after man killed by police

GRENOBLE, France (AFP) -

Rioters exchanged gunfire with police in the French city of Grenoble early Saturday, setting fire to shops and cars after police shot dead a man accused of robbing a casino.

Youths torched between 50 and 60 cars in the southeastern French city, as well as construction equipment and two shops, while police said they made five arrests.

Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux was to visit the city Saturday afternoon, his ministry said.

The rioting started after a memorial service for 27-year-old Karim Boudouda, who died 24 hours earlier in a shootout with police after allegedly holding up the Uriage-les-Bains casino near Grenoble.

Shortly before midnight, a group of around 30 youths armed with baseball bats and iron bars attacked a tram in Boudouda's working class district of La Villeneuve and forced the passengers to get out.

Karim Boudouda

Which tells you these rioters may be youths in France, but are almost certainly not French youths.

I would hope similar behavior here would be met by a boot to the throat. Not likely however nor even plausible that they meet with much resistance while we have a muzzie president.

Karim Boudouda

I didn't know they had Amish people in France.

I wonder if they have to put the little orange triangles on their buggies when they ride down the French highways?

Holy Cow!

Can you image what kind of rates the French pay for car insurance?

Ah oui, the French “youths” are famous world-round for their deep and abiding hatred of automobiles. Interesting that they exchanged gunfire with police. I had thought such a sophisticated continental country would have given up their nasty, old guns long ago.

My guess would be that he was from north Africa.

At around 2:30 am (0030 GMT), a youth emerged at the front of the rioters and fired a shot at police, who returned fire four times, police spokeswoman Brigette Jullien told AFP. Nobody was injured in the riots, police said.

Les flics need to spend more time at the range. They let an armed rioter get a shot off, then fired four times without hitting him. The other rioters are very lucky they weren't hit by the strays.

Just because they were "youths" from a "working class" neighborhood, you automatically assume they were Mulims.

(Of course, they were Muslims)

So, when they say: “Boudouda’s working class district of La Villeneuve”, what exactly does that mean?

Does that mean most of the residents get up and go to work each morning, or, what?

Youths

I'll translate for those who have not been schooled in languages, such as PC speak:

Youths - European for unemployed Muslim terrorist males of any age.

That's the translation in England for the French 'youth'. Just like 'youth' has nothing to do with age, 'asian' has nothing to do with geographic origin. But we can't call Muslims what they really are, can we?

'Working class' means slums, most of whose inhabitants aren't gainfully employed at licit jobs.

Not only that, but it seems that they were baseball fans as well...

Ah oui, the French “youths”

You beat me to it. Those wacky, fun-loving French "youths".

Despite what has happened over the last 20 years, European cultures are not exactly known for their acceptance of other cultures. "Celebrating Diversity" is not something that comes naturally to them. I'm wondering how long this will go on before the locals rise up and give these "youths" a formal beat-down.

Hmmm. Then again, European history is littered with examples of one empire or another conquering and ruling for several centuries. Occupation and servitude may just be another form of government to some.

Interesting that they mention Switzerland as well in this article. French-speaking part, I assume? I cannot imagine the Swiss police react as ‘nicely’ as these French guys. Does anyone know where in Switzerland there are problems?
