Ayotte continues to lead in both the primary and general elections.

In a historical first, if Ayotte wins, she would be the first popularly elected Senator of French-Canadian decent.

You’re forgetting Rhode Island Republican Sen. Felix Hebert (1929-1935).

I am planning to vote for her in the primary although somebody on here said she was a “McCain RINO” and Ovide Lamontagne was the only “true conservative” in the race. Ovide didn’t exactly cover himself with glory when he ran for governor a few years ago and his lawyering for the Bishop does not sit well with a lot of people, me included, and I’m not a Catholic.

Lamontagne ran more than a few years ago, it was in 1996.

Kelly Ayotte is the real deal. Very conservative (with centrist appeal).

However, in my oponpion she’s running a shabby cmapign.

Bill Binnie coming on strong. But he beats Hodes head to head too. So we can’t lose.

Not only was there a French-Canadian Senator back in the 1930s (according to DJ, who is never wrong about these things), but, IIRC, Kelly Ayotte is not French-Canadian—Ayotte is her married name, and it’s her husband who is French-Canadian.

Her husband’s name is Joseph Daley according to what I read.

I stand corrected. I had read that Kelly Ayotte had married into a French-Canadian name, and I looked into it and found that my source was a frequent poster on The Hedgehog Report (who is usually correct about these things, but apparently not this time, unless Joseph Daley is Kelly Ayotte’s second husband and she kept her first husband’s name, unlikely given her relatively young age).

I don't know much about Binnie except that he seems to have come out of nowhere and is spending money hand over fist. He may be the nicest guy and be right on all the issues but Kelly Ayotte has won my respect for her AG work and my vote. That slug Hodes must really fear her to run that scurrilous tv ad over and over ad nauseum.

Lamontagne is a good choice if you want to give Hodes a chance to win.

To 15: Roger that.
To 16: I wouldn’t rule it out at this point.
