Lieberman, Kerry make last-ditch appeal on scaled-back climate bill
The Hill ^ | July 12, 2010 | Darren Goode & Ben Geman

The Senate sponsors of a sweeping climate change bill are drafting a scaled-back version focused on electric power plants in a bid to salvage a role for greenhouse gas curbs in the Senate energy debate.

Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) this week will start circulating a draft of their narrowed plan as they try to convince Democratic leaders to include a carbon pricing component in a broad energy package that may hit the Senate floor next week.

“I am very optimistic that we can pass something here that deals with energy and gets us started in the right direction,” Kerry said Monday. “If that’s the best we can do, that’s the best we can do."

Kerry acknowledged that his broader effort to address climate change fell victim to a long and politically bruising healthcare debate and other priorities this election year.

“We have very little time, a lot of pressures, including election pressures, and we are just going to have to be realistic,” he told reporters in the Capitol.

Lieberman, Kerry and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) have had staff-level talks about the utility-focused the idea and other options, Lieberman said. “Our staff people are giving drafts to [Reid],” Lieberman said Monday. “We are working hard to convince him to do a strong bill, and I am encouraged.”

Energy legislation is likely to be among the topics discussed when President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden meet with senior Senate Democrats at the White House Tuesday to talk about what they can get done before the August recess.

Kerry & Lieberman - too stupid and/or corrupt not to try to punish the US over energy.

Bad politicians are like pathogenic microbes that go into semi-remission, only to wait for another weakness in the body politic. In a sane world Kerry would be working at taco-bell, and Lieberman would have a men's suit store on the upper east side.

All they gotta do is wave a few bribes in front of RINO bastards Scott Brown, Olympia Snowe & Susan Collins, and the demoRATs will get whatever socialist bill they desire. Rat Bastard RINO traitors.

Well said and Kerry might still be over employed.

While you have a very good point, I would like to remind you that Graham isn’t on the bill any longer.

That might make it tough for the RINOS...

The key to everything is the "carbon pricing" scheme. Connected Democrat mobsters stand to make literally $trillion$ from this scheme. That's "$trillions$ with a "tr". Be assured, these "climate/energy" bills have absolutely nothing to do with climate or energy. It is all about the money, and it's "green" alright. Glenn Beck has assembled an excellent tutorial on how the scheme works, and he names the names of the "connected" people lurking under the radar who stand to become instant billionaires almost the minute this "carbon pricing" scheme becomes law.

I am a little surprised that Lieberman is in on the game to soak taxpayers out of $trillion$ for the rest of eternity, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised by any of these whores...

They are very likely to manage to get something passed this year, topping off one of the worst years ever in the history of America. They know they are running out of time, as they say here, but they’ll get as much as they can now to destroy us and resign themselves to waiting for more later.

Unfortunately whether there is a Repub co-sponsor on a demoRAT bill or not, does not make a difference to RINO's Collins, Snowe & Scott Brown, the latest traitor. Look at the so-called Wall Street Regulatory Reform bill, with all three of these RINO's now voting for bill. I just finished calling Scott Brown's Needham, MA office (1-781-444-0200) and ranted & raved for 10 minutes. RINOs don't need a co-sponsor Repub. They will pander & appease to socialist demoRATS cause those are their real kindred spirits, not Repubs & certainly not conservatives.

They aren’t up there like most of Congress to serve the people. They are up there to make a career out of cheating; lying and stealing.

Sticking solar panels where the Sun don’t shine. I like the poetic irony in that.

Yep...I know about the Maine twins, and Scott Brown, on the Financial Regulatory bill. Did you expect anything else from them? They aren’t conservatives, and they don’t come from conversative states.

However, Cap and Tax is very onerous...and they don’t have the “bipartisan” support that they had when Graham had his name on the bill. Graham...from a Red state...it makes a difference.

Thank you so much for getting involved. I am very impressed with you!
