Both have served in the U.S. military together. It has been my experience that Mexicans are more inclined to be in combat arms (ie infantry etc) billets than blacks.
Just my two cents.

I did not know that. Just in my personal experience, I’ve met a number of “military brats” that were black, but none that were hispanic.
