Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond

I thought it was great. Confirmed a bunch of stuff I already suspected to be true and opened my eyes to some new things as well.

In honor of Paul the Psychic Octopus I downloaded the Kindle version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and started reading it last week.

On my third Matthew Shardlake mystery, Sovereign, by C.J. Sansom - great summer reads about a hunchback lawyer in Tudor England who solves mysteries and struggles with the changing theologies of the time.

I love this thread and look forward to it- but it always leaves me wondering...where are all the stupid, incurious, illiterate and uneducated conservatives? ;)

I now have 103 books on my wish list at Amazon

I use my Amazon wishlists to keep track of what I need from the library. Everything I want to read is on the Private list. If I can't find it at the library, and I think it deserves shelf space, I move it to the Public list.

I am thoroughly enjoying it. However it is scary to think of because almost everything happening in the book up till now (about 1/2 way through) has already happened in real life.

I read several books at once:

Kate Morton, The Forgotten Garden
Vince Flynn, Memorial Day
Donald Miller, Father Fiction: Chapters for a Fatherless Generation

Waiting in the wings:

Matthew Algeo, Harry Truman’s Excellent Adventure: The True Story of a Great American Road Trip

David Cloud and Greg Jaffe, Fourth Star: Four Generals and the Epic Struggle for the Future of the United States Army

Dennis Prager, Happiness is a Serious Problem

Stieg Larrson, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Several light reading novels that catch my fancy on a given day.

“Finished “Overton Window” by Glenn Beck”

Just finished it myself. Just a couple of flaws, but overall a great read. He is a pretty talented novelist.
