You have know idea what you are talking about. About 20 offshore rigs move in and out of the Gulf of Mexico nearly every year. Some of these rigs make half a million dollars a day. Several million in set up cost is quickly recouped versus setting idle.
I would bet there are thousands in the construction process.
In the entire world, there are 66 offshore rigs under construction to operate in depth over 500 foot. None of them are being constructed in the US.
Where else offshore US are they allowed to drill? A few limited spots in Alaska, no where else. The Pacific, Atlantic and Eastern Gulf of Mexico have been closed to oil exploration for a very long time.
I never said that anyone would stop building rigs, but it takes a while and in the meantime we are shipping ours overseas. Also rigs aren’t built on spec, they are built for companies who already know where they will be deployed. Defend Obama if you like, he is attempting to destroy the domestic oil industry, and now he’s not even hiding the fact.
