Washington (AP) - The Obama administration is proposing a new rule to tighten restrictions on pollution from coal-burning power plants in the eastern half of the country, a key step to cut emissions that cause smog.

The Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday the new rule represented its most consequential effort yet to tackle deadly pollution that contributes to smog and soot that hangs over more than half the country.

The rule would cost nearly $3 billion a year and those costs are likely to be passed along to consumers, although the rule's effect on specific companies and on consumers was not clear.

Time to dismantle this org and all others that think they can make law simply by imposing “rules” on people and industries. EPA needs to be dumped and soon.

Apparently Obama does keep some campaign promises.

Say good bye to more jobs though.

Absolutely...If the Rats can’t pass and shove a law down our throats the Obama thug administration simply does it by making a rule.

although the rule's effect on specific companies and on consumers was not clear.

It will be clear when you see the new electric bill.

Can you afford to have your energy rates for you home double? Sounds to me that’s what’s going to happen.

Hmmmm, if it only affects the NE parts of the country then I wouldn’t mind as this hits the Obama voters the hardest.

Though I doubt Obama’s EPA would be satisfied with just part of the country paying high energy costs.

“EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said the rule signed Tuesday should improve air quality and public health in a broad swath of states, from southern New England down to Florida, over to Texas and up to Minnesota. The rule does not affect four New England states: Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hamsphire and Maine.”

Besides the four New England states, arent they missing the West coast? Why doesn’t this apply to all states? Has a deal been made that we havent heard about yet?

#1. this will be a killer on home ownership in the north east. Own an older home, own a big house, big energy bills will make your resale value go down. Upside down on your mortgage? Who will you pay first? electric company or bank?

#2. work for a small manufacturing/distributing company, or other small business where electric costs are not insignificant? Say hello to the unemployment line.

Unfortunately, the Democrats in Congress think they are doing a good job. If the Democrats aren't swept his year the United States in finished. They can still do a tremendous amount of damage even if they are swept.

Well the religion of the west is the worship of earth/nature so expect this to continue EVEN after it is obvious to everyone this is a total failure. It is a religion to them and they will not change. Life in a neo-pagan society will be hard and tedious, get used to it.

Coal is the basis of 47% of electric generation in the United States. Prices for electricity are going up or the electricity is going away. Either way, Obama is giggling with glee.
