FORT BRAGG (WTVD) -- Fourth of July festivities on Fort Bragg could proceed as scheduled thanks to the community's response to a devastating fire.

A warehouse that housed the 82nd Airborne Division's band and orchestra instruments was completely destroyed Friday evening.

The Korean War-era building was filled with close to $1 million in equipment and uniforms for the 82nd Airborne Band.

High school band directors are the logical go to guys. Hope they step up.

Definitely. Most schools have loaners for the smaller instruments for students who have to send theirs out for maintenance, and most students *don’t* own larger instruments such as tubas and bass clarinets.

And they're on summer vacation, so all the instruments should be available.

And anybody with a copy machine can get the 1812 together. Since all the 82nd's copies burnt up in the fire, and this is an emergency, I think the "fair use" exception would apply, so long as they toss the copies afterward.

Everything's already been taken care of.

82nd Airborne band will play Sunday -- Donations mean band will perform full program as scheduled

The local county schools as well as Methodist University stepped right up - while the fire was still burning the university band director called the president and he gave them the go-ahead to give the 82nd everything they had - music, instruments, chairs, stands, risers. It's already been trucked over to Ft. Bragg.

So the show will go on! Good on the local community for supporting the 82nd!
