Republican Rep. Steve King’s Discharge Petition Aimed at Repealing Obamacare Gains 74 Signatories

Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King’s discharge petition, aimed at repealing Obamacare, is gaining momentum in the House as more representatives sign on.

Today Rep. Tom Price, Georgia Republican and chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) is circulating a request that members support the petition. To date 74 representatives — all Republicans — have affixed their names to the document which, if a majority sign, would force House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring King’s bill, H.R. 4972 “To repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” to the floor for an up-or-down vote. If a majority sign the petition it is likely that King’s bill will pass, as those who sign will vote for his repeal.

King is urging the 34 Democrats who voted against the health-care legislation to sign onto the petition. He was enthusiastic about the support his motion has received.

“I am optimistic that we will be able to attract the 218 signatures we will need to force a vote on repealing ‘Obamacare.’ The past week has seen significant momentum building for repeal,” King said. “Signatures on the discharge petition have come more quickly than I had expected. This has been partly due to a large number of co-sponsors on the repeal bill, but it also demonstrates the effectiveness of the efforts of the Heritage Action Team and a boost from the Club for Growth. I have asked for a national cooperative effort by all organizations interested in restoring liberty by repealing ‘Obamacare.’”

I sure hope it works. Problem is the dims will change the rules to suit them if they’re in trouble. They have a history of doing this.

Thanks for posting this. It gives me encouragement. I have been very concerned that Obamacare and talk of its repeal is not being discussed by many republican and conservative candidates. Every one of them should be targeting their opponents and asking them ‘Do you support Obamacare?’

Pat Caddell was on Hannity’s radio show this afternoon. He said that the Republican leadership is the dumbest he has ever seen, as they have been handed a golden issue (the majority favors repeal of Obamacare) and they are not using it. He also said that opposition to Obamacare in polling is slowly beginning to slide, probably as a result of its not being discussed...this had better change come fall. The voters need to be reminded of the legislative castor oil that was forced down their throats!

Boehner and Cantor are trying to undercut him:

Eric Cantor and John Boehner Don’t Really Want to Repeal Obamacare

If it gets close, it will spur a discussion on how much it would SAVE if we repealed it.

He may as well be trying to catch farts in a burlap bag. He is NOT going to get 218 signatures on his discharge petition unless 40 democrats who voted for Obamacare die and are immediately replaced by conservative Republicans because the ones who voted against it did so only because they were vulnerable in the fall elections. This is for show only and to maybe drum up some money for his re-election campaign.

You’re absolutely right. And I think if it does change come fall- whoever makes this possible, whether it be Steve King or somebody else- they become the new leader. You don’t undo everything that the Dems have put us through in the last few years by being wimpy like Boehner has been known to be.

You’re right as to the dims- but hey, it’s worth an honest try, I figure.

74 votes? Only 144 to go. Good luck.
