One of 11 suspects accused by the US of spying for Russia has gone missing after being freed on bail on Cyprus.
The man, a Canadian, named by police as Christopher Metsos, was due to sign in at a police station in the coastal town of Larnaca but did not show.
He was held at Larnaca airport on Tuesday as he tried to board a plane to Budapest, a day after the US said it had held 10 other suspects.
Mr Metsos was awaiting a hearing for extradition to the US.
He had been staying alone at a hotel in Larnaca for nearly two weeks and was said by local media to have been carrying a US passport.
'Sleepers'
Aged 54 or 55, he is depicted by US prosecutors as the alleged spy ring's shadowy moneyman, visiting the US as early as 2004 to deliver bags of cash to its members. An arrest warrant is being issued for Mr Metsos, whose bail conditions were that he surrender his travel documents and visit the police station in central Larnaca each day.
He failed to sign in on Wednesday evening as ordered by the court, police say.

Unless this kind of story is just theater, to cover the administration’s collusion with Russia. Helping them to prepare for the years ahead when we have real Americans in the White House.

You have to wonder why the Russians still bother to pay spies when they’ve already taken the White House and both branches of congress. Didn’t they get the memo? It was in the news.
Man chill out, I cant believe how up tight some folks are over this,at the very worst they are guilty of failing to register as foreign agents and they haven’t even been found guilty.
This little group is probably only a fraction of the the aparatus. There is probably a “carbon copy” group doing the exact same thing in the same place. The communists are good at redundancy, and they duplicate their operatives for exactly these kinds of situation.
Thanks for the reminder about innocent until proven guilty.. I disagree with the tenor of the rest however.
Whether these people are guilty or not there is nothing new about foreign efforts to influence public opinion and thus secure benefits for foreign governments, through funding or active participation.
In some cases it is indeed with the aim to stir dissatisfaction and violence -- to benefit hostile foreign powers. Downplaying Soviet influence in the 1950s and the "anti-war" offensive of the 1960s are the most glaring examples in my lifetime -- though Islamist influence today arguably exceeds both.
Some foreign efforts are simply to secure economic advantages over Americans, totally lawful -- though repugnant IMO -- such as activist organizations and Congressional hyphenated caucuses that purport to speak for the rights of their citizens living in the U.S.
BTW, IMO Putin, et al former Soviet officials do very much want to "get even."

Interesting. I guess when you’re paranoid about conspiracies in all things 24/7, it might seem like you’re right once in a great while, in a broken clock sense.
