I have one primary problem with Townhall Magazine's new list of "The 100 Americans the Left Hates Most": it's completely mistitled.
Really it's not about who the Left hates the most, it's about who the most prominent people are on the Right right now in broadcasting, politics, activism, new media and think tanks. These are not the same thing at all. There are plenty of big and important conservatives who the Left might dislike but doesn't actually hate at a visceral level. Can you look me in the eye and say the Left hates Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor, and John Boehner? How about Marco Rubio who's barely been on the political scene? And with all due respect to Hot Air, the single most vital conservative blog online, Ed Morrissey and Allah Pundit aren't hated by the Left. (And Ed seems to acknowledge this.)
What's clear is that the Townhall list was assembled by traditional conservatives, not ex-leftist conservatives. Thus it's obvious that they're not going to get it right when compiling who the Left hates. Why? Because the majority of traditional conservatives really don't understand the Left. If they did then they wouldn't lose in the Left's political wars time and time again.
As an ex-leftist who actually did once hate many of the people on Townhall's list it was easy to go through with a razor blade and narrow down who the Left really hates and more importantly, who they hate the most. First, before I get a bunch of commenters wailing, here are the two criterion for the list that Townhall set:
1. They have to be alive.
2. They have to be Americans.
OK, let's get started:

In what sense are guys like George W. Bush, Mitt Romney and Senator Scott Brown conservative ? (scratching my head )
While I disagreed with Glenn Beck’s list of “conservatives” or those he claims are on the right and
“the most” vilified, it’d be good to see the “30” alternate names without having to make the jump.
I think you’re right.
Bill O’Reilly is not a conservative.
If I recall, while Obama blames “everything” on Bush, Cheney was the first one blamed for the BP oil spill.
And yet Obama is pulling a Blanco by DOING NOTHING about the situation AFTER THE FACT.
Maybe because they’re not far enough to the left?
Actually ... that’s a pretty solid list.
1-10 are Cheney, Rove, Bush, Coulter, Palin, Limbaugh, Rice, Beck, Bolton, Rumsfeld.
11-20 are Horowitz, Supreme Court Justices in Bush v. Gore(Scalia, Thomas, Rehnquist, Kennedy, O’Connor), Dobson, Ailes, F.Graham, Inhofe, J.Goldberg, Breitbart, Malkin, Sowell.
21-30 are Schlafly, Tea Party Members, Murdoch, Krauthammer, Tony Perkins, Gingrich, Norquist, Hannity, Jan Brewer, O’Reilly.
I think John Bolton is way too high. The Supreme Court justice thing is a cop out ... Thomas and Scalia should be ranked individually. Tea Party members should be higher. Who is Tony Perkins?

Why would the left hate Michael Steele? He’s the best friend they’ve got in the GOP leadership.
Steele is on the list of “conservatives” that liberals LOVE ...
1 through 5 are Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan, George Will, Michael Steele, and Alan Keyes.

I noticed that too late. That’s what I get for tabbing directly to the end. My bad.
LOL! Hannity got “dissed”! ‘-)
Perkins, former Marine and out-spoken Christian, heads up the Family Research Center, that exposes all things anti-family, anti-life.
That wasn’t Beck’s list. The list was compiled by the editors of Townhall Magazine. Beck only posted it on his website because the editors voted him the most hated by the left.

Actually, the left does hate Michael Steele. The left hates all Black Republicans whether they are conservative (Thomas Sowell) or not (Steele).

Ah. I’ve heard of the Family Research Center ... just not Perkins personally. He does good work ... but I question whether he should be on the list personally (if I haven’t heard of him, I doubt many liberals have either).
A couple of other noteworthy names that were missed ...
Chris Christie. I’d place him equal with or above Jan Brewer.
Ronald Reagan. Even in death, he is more widely hated than many on the list. Same with William F. Buckley and Barry Goldwater.
Erik Prince (CEO of Blackwater). I’m not sure if he’s conservative, but the anti-Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld crowd have set their sights on him. He may have to move to the UAE to avoid prosecution by leftists ... all for giving service to his country in the War on Terror.
Michael Savage. The left has a weird love/hate with Savage ... they hate his statements, but love the image he paints of conservatism. He might ought to go on the “liberals love” list though if for no other reason than he does more harm than good to conservatism.
Clarence Thomas. Should have his own category.
Antonin Scalia. Same.
The American Armed Services. Many liberals do not hate the military ... but the most foaming-at-the-mouth leftists certainly do. How can they not dislike the most effective force for protecting America, killing its enemies, and exporting its values? When winning a war is a bad thing, those that win it are the bad guys.
Tom Delay.

agreed
Hasn’t this writer heard of Michelle Bachmann yet? I am truly amazed that she was not on the list. The left hates her guts. They are also irritated that the MN GOP added her to our stable of good-looking, feminine conservative gals.
Michelle fears no one and is willing to take on any liberal out there in lala land.
I thought Michele Bachmann was too fresh on the scene to make the top 30. I could be wrong, though. She’d probably be somewhere in top 35-25. When it gets to the end edges it’s much more flexible.
