GINSBURG, J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which STEVENS, KENNEDY, BREYER, and SOTOMAYOR, JJ., joined.

ALITO, J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which ROBERTS, C. J., and SCALIA and THOMAS, JJ., joined.

Kennedy: The supposed conservative who is why we still have legalized infanticide and now apparently sanctions against the first amendment free exercise of religion.

In Alito’s dissent: “The proudest boast of our free speech jurisprudence is that we protect the freedom to express ‘the thought that we hate.’” United States v. Schwimmer, 279 U. S. 644, 654–655 (1929)

So this will include say, The Muslim Student Association, from obtaining funding?

So, why are these organizations continuing as 501(c)(3) in the first place?

How much of our souls are we going to sell for the sake of this tax exempt status?

None of these groups should get any funding. If someone wants a student group, the members should have to pay for all of it.

Jesus said: “You will be hated by all men for My name’s sake.”

Nothing unusual here. Jesus said things like this would happen. It’s probably best if the group just meets off-campus anyway. They would have much more liberty.

This will quickly result in a situation where every group is funded/chartered except conservative Christian faiths. Once that happens then there will be a chance to appeal under the Establishment clause. Unfortunately it would seem that due to this recent decision we have to go all the way down that road before we can make our case.

This is why I have NEVER accepted public grant money for my art.

Even my work with “Special Needs”, Elderly, and Foster Children ALL is done with Private Money.

No Gub’mint Money, no Gub’mint Control!

Same would apply to churches who took Caesars money for Bushes Faith Based Program which are government funded. They would also have to hire gays even as their preachers. Some of us said this was exactly what would happen if it passed. It's best no church or Christian group take even a cent from fed than to ever be under it's control.

This makes sense to me, on one point. If you want to be a private group and exclude members by whatever criteria you want, then don’t expect government funding. With government funding comes many strings attached. Accept funding, lose your right to an exclusive membership.

Although, as long as they fund themselves, I think they should be a university recognized organization!

“The Supreme Court says a law school can legally deny recognition to a Christian student group that won’t let gays join.”

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

Simple answer for those who are upset at this decision: Start a movement to eliminate those "student activity" fees that most public colleges collect and [mis]manage through the auspices of so-called student government.

That would put a well-deserved end to radical student organizations that only survive by the generosity of generally apolitical students who think activity fees will all be used for their benefit. e.g., to sponsor concerts and such. Little do they know . . .

Number One on my list of organizations that need to be purged from all student funding: PIRGs.

Hey, that even rhymes: PURGE the PIRGS.

This case is so insidious because it leaves open a liberal opportunity for any leftist to define "funding." To a leftist, "funding" is exempting Churches from paying taxes. "Funding" means even the most tangential ways that the Boy Scouts of American interact with government (President's honorary title, etc.) "Funding" is the most incidental ways that government provides a public good. "Funding" means walking on a sidewalk that a city built and maintains.
