In Debate Over Gun-Carry Laws, Critics Are Quick to Shoot Down the Facts
Fox News ^ | June 24, 2010 | John R. Lott Jr.

People walking the streets armed with guns must be dangerous, right? A newly revised study by the Brady Campaign and the Violence Policy Center found that even those individuals who have legally obtained permits to carry concealed handguns are extremely dangerous. With millions of Americans already having been issued such permits from the various states, this is an important issue.

The gun control organizations have frequently made these claims in the press, and Dennis Henigan, the vice president of the Brady Campaign, will likely make these claims again when he and I appear on John Stossel’s FoxBusiness show today. But the gun control advocates inaccurately describe many shooting cases, choosing to ignore that the majority of incidents involve people properly defending themselves.

Over the past three years, the number of active permit holders in the United States has gone from about 5 million to more than 6.2 million today. The numbers issued by the state regulatory agencies show time after time that these permit holders abide by the law.

Take Florida, which currently has the most concealed handgun permit holders in the country and is one of the two most populous states with right-to-carry laws. . . . .

“...those individuals who have legally obtained permits to carry concealed handguns are extremely dangerous.”

Especially to tyrants, thugs, dictators, and despots from the street to the highest levels of political office.

FBN’s John Stossel argues the right to carry a concealed gun would reduce crime.

The facts are these.

Guns save lives.

When guns are allowed to a free people to own and use, crime goes down in those areas.

Liberals are and have always been soft on crime and criminals. Liberal hydges let off all manner of criminals with light slap on the wrist sentences amd that includes the worst of the worst child rapists, child murderers, child kidnappers and child molesters.

Thanks for the update. Was it Jim, his wife, or both, that got the Brady Bunch off the ground? Or, was one or the other or both, suckered in by the anti gun folks.

Understanding anti gun folks and their deception, is the same as trying to understand Islamic logic.

I'm only extremely dangerous when I need to be! In 50 years of packing I haven't had to shoot anyone yet, but I sure have stopped some hot situations from getting out of hand.

It isn't public safety driving the gun grabbers, most of them just can't stand seeing coercive force in the hands of average people. They want government to control all coercive force.

They want the government for coercive control.

Remember what happened in Germany in 1935.

We don’t need or want that to happen here.

Why in heaven’s name does an Organization who’s sole purpose is to OVERTHROW THE US CONSTITUTION given Tax Exempt Status??? Shouldn’t they all be tried for Subversion, Sedition, TREASON,...??? I don’t see any difference between the Brady Group and Al Queda. TERRORIST ORGANIZATION whose sole purpose is the DESTRUCTION of the US and Elimination of our God Given Rights.

Concealed-carry permit holders ARE extremely dangerous - to criminals. And that’s a good thing.

Excellent post.

I'm not surprised that BC included the drug-dealing cop-killer Christina Korbe in their list.

She was a convicted felon and had no concealed carry permit and she murdered Hicks in her home during a drug raid, yet BC imply that she was a law-abiding, permit-possessing citizen who was somehow driven crazy by firearm ownership into going out and targeting police officers.

I know people that have owned & carried guns since the 40’s.

NONE of them that I know have EVER been involved in any kind of shootout-—or any kind of criminal act.

Some of them are owners of businesses & are carrying cash to the bank for deposit after hours at the end of the day.

Some are farmers/ranchers who are always on the lookout for predators of their calves—sheep—goats, etc.

Some live remotely & don’t want to be disturbed by unknown intruders. A sheriff can take up to 3 hours to get to some ranches.

Some are single women who want the guns for personal protection-no matter what time of day or night they work.

NONE of them have ever hurt a single person—especially with a gun.

Gun control is like trying to curb drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.

(Ted Kennedy’s car killed more people than my carry gun)

I wonder if the anti-gun bunch is related to the gays-in-the-military bunch? Any correlation less than 100% there?
