Like flies on ....! (starts with “s,” ends with “t,” and says “hi” in the middle of it all).
I lived in an old house out in the country in New Jersey - cow farms, etc. Seems that there is a type of fly that in larvae(?) stage is a worm or something. They crawl into warm places in the fall (under the rock walls and into the crawl space) and lay their eggs.
After a few warm days (June!?) ALL of the eggs hatch. The first time it happened I came home from work and every single window on the sunny side of the house was 50% to 80% covered with HUGE flies. Slow though too - probably still too cool for them?
No insect spray, so went after them with a water spray bottle and folded newspapers. It was disgusting! Hundreds if not thousands of flies.
Would happen the one day, and then that was it for the year! Weird.
I keep waving my Hawaiian birth certificate around, but the flies aren’t fooled.
What a story. Put something like that in the hands of a writer like Stephen King, and there’s no telling what might happen. ;)
The poor schmuck is controlled mentally by the Vampire. He is forced to catch and eat the flies buzzing around his cell in order to survive.
