Republicans May Boycott Kagan Supreme Court Hearings Over Lack of Documents

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are considering boycotting the hearings planned next week for pro-abortion nominee Elena Kagan because they still have not received the documents they requested from her tenure s Solicitor General for pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

Other documents concern Kagan's time as a top aide during the Clinton administration, and some already made public show her providing him political cover for vetoing a ban on partial-birth abortions.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, a pro-life lawmaker from Alabama, told Politico Monday evening that GOP lawmakers on the panel may boycott the hearings if the documents are not provided beforehand.

"I don't feel like we're prepared yet," Sessions said. "It's becoming more clear that this is not an easy thing to get ready this quick."

“If we feel like we can't go forward with the hearings … because we don't have sufficient documents, then yes, we may feel compelled to do whatever it takes to try to insist that the process be done right," he added.

Will that stop the hearings or simply make it a love fest? If the former, that’s OK; if the latter, that’s stupid.

This is the opening they need, if they really want to stop her.

Remember, 4 years ago (approx) the democrats filibustered Estrada because they couldn’t get a release of his old documents from his time in government. They made a “compelling” case to the media and America that you simply couldn’t expect them to vote yes or no if they didn’t have all the facts.

The Republicans should get together, and then issue a statement, which would explain that they still oppose judicial filibusters, but that since the democrats are in the majority, and have set the rules by their own actions, that the republicans will abide by the rules the Democrats used.

Then the republicans should do nothing more but read the transcripts of statements by the democrats, when they speak on the senate floor, or in the sunday talk shows. They should each memorize their parts, and quote the exact things said by the democrats about Estrada and documents.

There should be no vote allowed on Kagan until we have all the documents. That is the standard, that is the Democrat rule, and we should require they abide by that rule, until they themselves issue a Senate rules change to fix it (at which time we can at least know that the democrats won’t be able to pull this crap again when they are in the minority).

You are exactly right and that’s what needs to happen. It is simple, straightforward...and likely what they won’t do.

Your faith in the Republicans' ability to take courageous action and use parliamentary strategy is most inspiring. I thank you for it.

Now I must return to reading "Alice in Wonderland," as I wait for Santa Claus to tether a pony under my Christmas tree, and the Tooth Fairy to make a long overdue deposit under my pillow.
