There Will be War (Iran)

Last week, Iran's opposition leaders Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karoubi canceled anti-government demonstrations timed to commemorate the anniversary of last year's disputed presidential election. Secretary of the State Hillary Clinton called the cancellation "regrettable," but missed the larger point. The reform these two men offer is not what the majority of Iranians want: They want an end to the current Islamic regime.

One year ago, the Obama administration missed an opportunity to support Iran's uprising. They mistakenly calculated that back-door negotiations with Iran's clerics and promises made by its rulers would bring cooperation on the nuclear issue. The Americans were duped and now find themselves grasping for another chance to support an Iranian uprising.

Meanwhile, the Obama administration has ordered a massive buildup of U.S. forces in the Persian Gulf starting with Carrier Strike Group 10, headed by the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. Just last Friday an armada of more than 12 U.S. and Israeli warships passed through the Suez canal amid extreme security provided by Egypt. The ships are headed for the Red Sea and from there to the Persian Gulf. Another four U.S. warships will be making their way to the region to join the Strike Group. The Americans have also conducted joint air and naval strike practices with France and the U.K. under the command of American forces, while Germany is sending warships to the area, also under the command of American forces.

"One year ago, the Obama administration missed an opportunity to support Iran's uprising."

He missed nothing. He congratulated the "duly elected" leaders of Iran. His hatred of all things American and\or Jewish decides his actions.

Britain and France
had to choose
between war and dishonour.
They chose dishonour.
They will have war.

Obama will use it to show that he is a strong defense minded POTUS and to dispel rumors that he is muslim since he attacked or support the attack of a muslim country.

Essentially a major disruption in the hearts and minds of Americans.

This will not turn out good.

Remember, when the winds of war get ugly, he will stand by his muslim brothers.

Careful that our arms are not used against ourselves and our traditional allies.

Great campaign talk. and mid term support /confusion.

“I can’t see it benefiting the dems.”

Americans will rally around the troops and the CIC even if it is a wag the dog event. I can also sense a public mood that could swing to supporting the green agenda if the BP oil spill does indeed become horrific. A GOP tsunami in November is no sure thing given the Obama propaganda machine and events yet unforeseen.

There’s never been a president like this before. I could see it playing out completely differently.

A GOP tsunami in November is no sure thing

Nothing in politics is sure. In 1954 the Democrats won the House of Representatives from the Republicans, for the fourth change of control in five elections. Everybody was sure that in '56, with Eisenhower at the top of the ticket, the Republicans would win the House back. So sure that the new Democrat Speaker, Sam Rayburn, told the outgoing Republican Speaker to keep the Speaker's fancy offices. Rayburn saw no need to move his furniture into the Speaker's office, when he would have to move back out when the Republicans won the House in two years.

Of course the Republicans didn't win the House in '56, or '58, or '60.... not until 1994. Things look good, if we work hard, donate money, volunteer to knock on doors, and make phone calls, and act as poll watchers, and drive voters to the polls, and all the other things that go into running a good campaign. But nothing is for certain, and you can bet the Democrats will working with a desperation brought on by fear of huge losses.

I don't think it will happen at all --- precisely because everyone expects it. We'll gain a few seats but not enough to undo the harmful legislation.
