Joe Barton: Texas vs.Obama's over-reaching EPA
Dallas Morning News ^ | June 21, 2010 | Joe Barton

When you think of the Obama administration and Texas, think of Walter Peck. He was the churlish Ghostbusters character from the Environmental Protection Agency who barked orders and warned, "If he tries that again, shoot him!" It'd still be funny, except now the EPA man is President Barack Obama's regional administrator in Texas.

Activists called Al Armendariz the new sheriff in town, and it wasn't long before he was taking names and kicking Texas. His top target is the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality, which ensures that big employers abide by the Clean Air Act.

Federal law does allow the EPA to pre-empt state regulations, but typically only after it can demonstrate that a state has failed to do the job. Exactly the opposite is true for Texas.

With Obozo and his toadies it is not about "the law" nor about "the truth", but about punishing your opponents.

The United States has really tough Rules & Regulations concerning foreign companies as well as domestic ones, drilling for oil here. Who looked the other way when applications were made?

I would like an investigation of Pelosi's congress as well as earlier congresses.

Yep, EPA is a fatally flawed political beast, and must go.

Texas needs to draw a line in the sand on this thuggery. This is a Chicago style shakedown and it will continue until someone punches the thug in the nose. Explain to Armendariz that Texas has met the requirements of the Clean Air Act and escort his backside out of Texas. The bloom is off the rose, zer0 doesn’t enjoy nearly the politcal capital and goodwill of earlier now that his incompetence has become painfully apparent. Nearly 10% unemployment and he continues the assault on private industry. It has to start somewhere.

He should select the MOST polluted states to attend to first. We are not in that rank.

Liberals don’t care...they just want to see a state that defied the O and his liberal agenda, get it between the eyes.

I am appalled, flummoxed and truly almost scared of what will happen if we don’t get rid of this bunch.
