Rep. Baldwin stumps for Dems in Michigan (Marky Mark Schauer)

U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.), the only openly lesbian member of Congress, was at Affirmations June 14 to support U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer (D-Battle Creek) in his reelection bid.

"We need Mark Schauer back in Washington," said Baldwin. "As members of the LGBT community, we need to make sure our strong allies, like Mark, keep their seats in Congress."

"I am proud to be a co-sponsor of ENDA (the Employment Non-Discrimination Act), I voted in favor of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act," Schauer said to the group of about 20 community leaders and donors.

Schauer said that pundits believe his race is a toss up.

"You know what are the three scariest words in the English language? Speaker John Boehner," said Shauer, referring to the current Republican minority leader the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio.

Schauer faces a tough reelection. In 2008, he narrowly defeated arch-conservative Republican incumbent Mark Wahlberg, who is running again this year. Conservative Brian Rooney will face Wahlberg in the Republican primary this August. Rooney and his family have deep pockets as owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL franchise. Both Wahlberg and Rooney appeal to the most conservative wing of the Republican Party.

First off, it is TIM WALBERG, not Mark Wahlberg the original Marky Mark. There's no "h" in Walberg's name.

I'm also quite sure that Jackson, Rives Junction, Manchester, Tecumseh, Homer, Coldwater, Charlotte, and Whitmore Lake, are going to love that their congressman was at a gay event in Ferndale. (snicker)

Lastly, in case my girlfriend wonders how the hell I found this story, I did a google news search for my congresscritter. This came up. I didn't switch teams, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Tim Walberg for Congress

Fail on Schauer’s part too. The 7th district is socially conservative. Economics not as much.

I wouldn't know one of the new kids on the block if I were kicking him in the head.

Actor - Mark Wahlberg
Candidate - Tim Walberg

I live in the district, so I would know that, unlike Pride Source in Ferndale.

Thanks I didn’t know about him in the band. I think I saw one movie he was in and he was good...but my movie viewing has become practically non-existent in the last 5-7 years.

GO TIM!

Also saw this today: http://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2010/06/7th_district_congressional_can.html

Who is this Rooney guy anyway? For someone who just moved in, you’d think he be a little more forthcoming about his background.

You’ll notice that Rooney isn’t mentioning the fact that his uncle was appointed Ambassador to Ireland by Obama. I don’t know if its a relative but the Democrat party chairman of PA is also named Rooney.
