Her mother will go into labor soon and both her monther and father will not be able to meet their daughter when she finally arrives on land.

And yes, it’s her 8th kid.

Just like Octomom and Kate Gosselin.

With an acknowledged nod toward insensitivity, perhaps her death might have stopped others from doing something this stupid. I don’t think the govt. should take her away from her parents and I really did not want her to die. Let’s just hope her parents will realize that this was foolhardy at best. She had no business doing this stunt at her age. In fact, attempting to sail around the world is dangerous at any age. Nature has a way of showing people they have no business doing this type of things. She’s alive, thank God there was a ship nearby and thank God no one died during the rescue. Perhaps sponsors will come to their senses some day.........nah...

They are a poor family.

Yes, I remember growing up near the ocean and frolicking on the high seas with other poor families in boats like this one:

Hope she repeats the attempt before she breeds, that’s a line that needs a littls Darwinian assistance.

I feel very badly for the family of the fisherman who had be rescued during HER rescue. What a selfish, self-serving family she comes from, poor girl.

I think she should be put into child protective custody and given therapy, what a peculiar set of parents this poor child has.

Yeah, that and the claims she was experienced. You either need connections or money to gain the experience needed for ocean sailing like this.

Even though she didn’t make it I’m pretty impressed, that’s an interesting 16 yr old, at least not butt sitting and wasting life away on mindless computer games and endless chats with others wasting their lives away.

Wild Eyes was purchased with borrowed money financed by the advertising sponsorship commitments less than a year ago. Abby only "owned" the boat since October 19th of last year after the majority of the advertising commitments had been secured.

government should be in charge of how you raise your kids.

But only a conservative nanny state government, not a liberal nanny state government.

Looking on the bright side, neither Indian nor US taxpayers had to finance an expensive rescue operation for this child, whose parents should lose custody of her immediately for letting her put her life in danger.

And how is that any different from handing her a set of car keys?

>> The ship was abandoned, too. <<

Somebody doesn’t know the difference between a ship and a boat.

The mother and father have 5 other kids (besides Zac and Abby) and a baby on the way any day now. So don’t be surprised if Octomom and Octodad try to pull the same stunt with the younger ones in time.

I’m not sure I’m understanding what the problem is? People climb mountains, explore, fly planes, sail boats around the world, become test flights, go into space. Chances are taken - individuals who have freedom can make these choices - slaves cannot. A generation ago, 16 years old was old enough to lie about your age and join the military - to take your chances to fight for your country. I have not heard this girl complain about anything - she is chasing her dream, willing to pay the price. Isn’t that what individual freedom is all about? Don’t understand the backlash on Free Republic?

If only there were some sort of child protection authorities before those selfish pilgrims forced their kids on that rickety sailboat the Mayflower...

Really? This kid was off discovering new lands and not selfishly trying to simply set a personal record?
