VIRGINIA BEACH
The Virginia Aquarium is releasing a dozen Kemp's ridley turtles rehabilitated in Virginia and Massachusetts to make space available for any turtles affected by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
The aquarium says the endangered sea turtles will be released at 11 a.m. Tuesday off Cape Charles. The release is a joint effort by the Virginia Aquarium and the New England Aquarium.
Ten turtles suffering from cold stunning were found in Massachusetts' Cape Cod Bay in November and December. Cold stunning occurs when sea turtles are exposed to extremely cold water.
The two Virginia turtles also suffered from cold stunning, along with some injuries. One was stranded during the November nor 'easter, and the other was found in December.
Glad to see they're leaving their life of crime behind.
I know it’s not polite to ask, but what were they in for?
I don't want their kind of scum in MY neighborhood.
As soon as my wife read me that title, I knew it would be good for some FR humor!
Last time I was down at Jupiter island they had these stick enclosures all over the place, for the turtles. I like turtles. Their cool, but they had half the beach, this place is worried about 12?
Good luck to them.
Running a shell game. Extortoise. That sort of thing.
Speeding.
Mmmm turtle.
When can we release the “Post Turtle” from the White Hut?
I have no idea was this a childs story?
When you’re driving down a country road and you see a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a post turtle.
You know he didn’t get up there by himself. He doesn’t belong there, he can’t get anything done while he’s up there, he can only see in the direction he has been turned and you just want to help the poor, dumb thing down.
It’s kind of odd, but those who most strongly identify with evolution do the most to prevent it from occurring, and those who deny evolution are the most likely to let the gene pool become rid of certain members as a result of circumstances.
From the log of the Oliver Cromwell, the first ship laid down to fight the British:
7th: at 5 oclock afternoon made the Land of Abaco.
8th: at 10 oclock Harbour island. Bore east Dist 2 leagues.
9th: Hard Gales of wind.
10th: Fresh Gales of wind & Heavy Squals.
11th: Fresh breezes & a Rough Sea.
12th: at 6 afternoon Caught a Great Turtle which was kookt the next Day for the Entertainment of the Gentlemen of the Fleet. No less than 13 Came on Board to Dine.
It ain’t easy getting those turtles off the heroin.
