Obama to POLITICO: Congress shares the blame for BP
Politico ^ | Roger Simon

Posted on 06/11/2010 6:37:08 PM PDT by pissant

President Barack Obama said Friday that some members of Congress should share the blame for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with POLITICO, the president said: “I think it’s fair to say, if six months ago, before this spill had happened, I had gone up to Congress and I had said we need to crack down a lot harder on oil companies and we need to spend more money on technology to respond in case of a catastrophic spill, there are folks up there, who will not be named, who would have said this is classic, big-government overregulation and wasteful spending.”

The president also implied that anti-big government types such as Tea Party activists were being hypocritical on the issue.

“Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying ‘do something’ are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much,” Obama said. “Some of the same people who are saying the president needs to show leadership and solve this problem are some of the same folks who, just a few months ago, were saying this guy is trying to engineer a takeover of our society through the federal government that is going to restrict our freedoms.”

Not really. Carter’s problem was that he was far too honest to be president.

He actually said some things we needed to hear at the time and took on his own party on spending. It’s why Kennedy ran against him.

We remember him as a failure primarily for the Iran Hostage Crisis and some people still stew over the Panama Canal. In both cases, those were the results of Carter listening to one set of advisors over the wrong ones. Carter also had the misfortune of coming into office after Watergate and during an economy that has basically been bad since the end of the LBJ administration, so by then a decade.

Carter’s failures (or our perception of it) we’re related to his willingness to let his staff guide him, his own honesty to the point that he wouldn’t bite his tongue for political points and the fact that any president in that time had it rough because as I recall if you had asked anyone in January 1983 who would be president come 1985 a majority of people would have said someone other than Reagan.

Carter was a failure in our eyes but historians will probably end up rating him as a mediocre president as opposed to the failure we saw him as because we lived through the politics and the emotions of it.

Obama is different from Carter because he has no real policy successes. He had a honeymoon of optimism of a few months and then proceeded to begin failing. His only victories have been legislative ones and they’ve been pyhrric ones with a huge political cost.

With Carter you can at least say that some of it was circumstance because every president in the 70’s ended up being tossed out by the public in some form or fashion, even if his own faults played a part it. With Obama, none of it is circumstance. All of this would have happened even if the economy were humming on all cylinders and rainbows and gold were falling from the sky.

RobinOfBerkely over at American Thinker has attempted to diagnose The Won. She paints an ugly, and scary (for us) picture.

The man is probably damaged in multiple ways.

at least carter was a natural born citizen and a legal president of the U.S. ( not saying much). of course obama could claim some time in the future that he was not the worse president in history, because technically he was never the legal president!

He is pathetic.

I concur with both of you; hence my tagline.

The question is, who are these “statesman” of the Democrat Party that would do that?
Lieberman isn’t even a Democrat now, who do you have in mind?

None of them could even stand on principle agaisnt Pelosi to defeat the Healthcare Bill, even when it meant their own careers.

They are pussy-whipped by Pelosi, and Reid is “not there.”

Perhaps Feinstein would be a sensible party leader, but I am hard-pressed to come up with some names....

brings to mind Captain Queeg in “The Caine Mutiny”.

Yes it does, but of a far greater magnitude and impact.

The Middle East could implode within weeks, and he is CinC.

Pray.

The late great Senator Barry Goldwater was one of two statesmen that went to the White House telling POTUS Richard Nixon he would have to resign or be impeached. Who would do the same in the Democrat Party? They will come from Democrats who realize POTUS Obama is a failed President. If the Democrat party does not get rid of him and his communist buddies, score and scores of Democrats will go down to defeat this coming November. I would say Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid should do it, but Ms. Pelosi is totally insane and Harry Reid is gone this November. He will not be re-elected. It should then be Hillary Clinton and James Clyburn (NC)(Congressional Black Caucus). The plan should be to force Obama to resign, force Joe Biden to resign, then before Obama departs, he appoints Hillary Clinton as VP. Upon Obama’s resignation Hillary Clinton becomes POTUS to fill out the reminder of Obama’s term. Clyburn should go because American Blacks are being hurt tremendously by the continuance of Obama across the board. This plan is not mine. It most likely has surfaced from the Bill Clinton side of the Democrat Party which realizes, Obama if left in office will not only take down himself, but the rest of the Democrat Party with him and, set American Blacks back 100 years. That Bill Clinton is a shrewd and pragmatic politician. We shall see!!!

I think it would be pushing the limits of reality to get both 0bama and Biden to resign, in favor of Hillary Clinton unless the Clintons had in reserve blackmail material on both Biden and 0bama.

As you may be aware, prior to Nixon's resignation, Agnew was forced out by evidence of kickbacks he had accepted while Governor of Maryland (a pracice that was "institutional" at the governor's office in that state).

Thinking back, I'm sure this was known, but not acted on. until it was useful.

I'll bet the Clintons, with their 900 FBI files, have stuff on Biden, and possibly 0bama, by now. It could be orchestrated to "save" the Democrat Party.

I am not sure how that scheme will Constitutionally work out, but the chain of succession is frightening. Third in line is Nancy Pelosi and I don’t envision her as stepping aside for Hillary.

I would like to see a sufficient number of republicans elected in November to overthrow the Congress and then prosecution and impeachment proceedings commence or at that point the demand for resignations. If we don’t rush things now and wait until the new congress is seated, we could not only stop The Agenda, but we could stop destruction of our nation.

You have identified a real problem!!! Nancy Pelosi is third in-line for taking over the POTUS slot if Obama resigns or Biden steps down. And....you are right....Pelosi will never step aside. I, personally, would like to wait until after the November elections, in which, hopefully the Republican/Conservatives will re-capture both houses. That, then changes the picture dramatically. Reid and Pelosi will be gone as leaders and...Obama and Biden could be impeached. I still think, however, the Democrat Party has a real serious problem hanging in there with Obama. He will take the Democrat Party down with him. As for the Democrat Party upsetting Black Americans by canning Obama, pay it little heed. Obama is causing untold hardship in the Black community. Just watch C-span every now and then, and hear the in-between the lines disatisfaction with Obama. He is no more for the Black folk then he is for anyone else. He is a maniac ego-nutcase and....loves only himself!!!

When will people realize that Ob’s main point of reference is bilking money out from where ever he can and siphoning off into who knows where. That is why he want BP to put billions into an escrow account. If anyone thinks that it is to go to help those who have been victimized by the oil spill and/or for clean up I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell them.
There may be a few that will receive help and a little action as far as clean up for the purpose of being used for propaganda videos and soundbites but the rest will quietly without hardly a notice simply disappear.
