Obama to POLITICO: Congress shares the blame for BP
Politico ^ | Roger Simon

Posted on 06/11/2010 6:37:08 PM PDT by pissant

President Barack Obama said Friday that some members of Congress should share the blame for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with POLITICO, the president said: “I think it’s fair to say, if six months ago, before this spill had happened, I had gone up to Congress and I had said we need to crack down a lot harder on oil companies and we need to spend more money on technology to respond in case of a catastrophic spill, there are folks up there, who will not be named, who would have said this is classic, big-government overregulation and wasteful spending.”

The president also implied that anti-big government types such as Tea Party activists were being hypocritical on the issue.

“Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying ‘do something’ are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much,” Obama said. “Some of the same people who are saying the president needs to show leadership and solve this problem are some of the same folks who, just a few months ago, were saying this guy is trying to engineer a takeover of our society through the federal government that is going to restrict our freedoms.”

So...LiberaLogic concludes that it's hypocritical to demand that the federal government do MORE of what the Constitution REQUIRES it to do (secure the border, protect Americans, respond to large-scale catastrophes) and LESS of what the Constitution PROHIBITS it from doing (controlling the media (internet), creating unfunded mandates like Obamacare, ex post facto taxation, gun-grabbing, regulating everything under the sun)???

And if Obama had done his job with MMS, BP might have been more regulated.

And FReepers would have criticized him for it.

Six months ago, he had 60 seats in the Senate and 257 in the House - overwhelming, and in the Senate, filibuster-proof, majorities.

If he couldn’t get through what he thinks he needed to get through, then I have no problem with the overwhelmingly DEMOCRAT Congress sharing blame with him.

Although, it would have been nice if his regime had enforced existing laws, rather than employing staff that partied and viewed pornography during duty hours instead of doing their jobs under existing law.

Uhhh, no. I don’t know ANY Freepers that want no government regulations on oil rigs. Maybe not more REGULATIONS, but certainly to uphold the ones in place!

However BP was given complete free rides to do anything they liked which gave way to shortcuts in the name of making money. Now maybe some Freepers are slaves to stocks and dividends, but most of us aren’t.

Banking is heavily regulated. Stocks are heavily regulated. Real estate is heavily regulated. Oil is heavily regulated. But even with all this regulating, and with congress and huge federal bureaucracies “overseeing” them they’re all crashing and burning and in crisis mode. We don’t need more regulations. We need less government, more efficiency and more responsibility.

I went for lunch today in Fort Lauderdale and on the corner of Oakland and US 1 there was an anti Obama protest this afternoon on the street corners waving American, Israeli and “Don’t Tread On Me” flags waving. There were signs, “His Real Name Is Barry Soetoro”, “Log On To ObamaCrimes.com”, “Have You Had Enough?” and “Take Back Our Freedoms”. Cars were blowing their horns as they passed and when I asked the group told me they were Constitutionalists.

DEFINITELY!

...which is why I believe that blasting the Administration for its MMS not regulating BP more is just playing into their hands.

Question is...do you agree with the CWA/OPA’s view of giving the President authority to nationalize private property?

These b**st*ards are relentless. In response to The Liar/0, it seems pretty simple to me: the feds are working on/doing the wrong things, and THAT is my problem with them.

Feds DO need to stay out of stimulus, health care, CO2 garbage etc. - we don't want or need them there.

However, they need to provide leadership and clear the way on things like the oil spill, instead of blaming and holding things up.

No hypocrisy, Big Fat 0, just a matter of understanding and setting priorities. Something that we can clearly see that you don't know how to do.

Why do you think that Obama has been so cavalier about the BP oil leak debacle? Why does he want ot to get worse?

Nationalization of oil companies in the USA is imminent.Watch the EPA and executive orders initiate the process.
