Berlin - The more devout a young Muslim male in Germany is, the more likely he is to resort to violence, according to a federally financed study seen Saturday by the German Press Agency dpa.
The study, based on interviews with 45,000 boys and girls aged 14 to 16, also concluded that male supremacist views and a preference for violent videos and computer games link closely with mosque attendance among the young. It compared Christians and Muslims.

Eric Breininger, one of Germany’s most wanted suspected terrorists, has been killed in a battle with Pakistani troops in the Waziristan tribal region of Pakistan, according to an unconfirmed statement by a jihadist group. Breininger had appeared in several Internet videos trying to recruit terrorists in Germany.
Eric Breininger, a German-born convert to Islam wanted by German police on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist cell, was killed on April 30 in a firefight with Pakistani troops, according to an unconfirmed claim by a Jihadi group on Sunday.
Breininger, 22, was a member of the Islamic Jihad Union and had contacts with the homegrown group of terrorists who plotted to bomb US targets in Germany in 2007. Three of the members of that group, known as the Sauerland cell after the region of western Germany where it was based, were arrested in September 2007 as they were preparing to carry out bombing attacks. They were sentenced to long jail terms in March this year.
A Turkish Islamist known as “Salaheddin,” who was in charge of the Islamic Jihad Union’s Internet site, is also reported to have been killed in the fight. German authoritities believe Salaheddin is Ahmet M., who was born in Germany and deported to Turkey 10 years ago.
German authorities said they were checking the report. The written statement made by the group called Taifatul Mansura and seen by SPIEGEL ONLINE says the two men were attacked by “Pakistanis who have deserted their faith” near the town of Mir Ali. It is likely to be referring to Pakistani soldiers. Ahmet M. had killed four attackers by exploding a hand grenade even though he had already been severely wounded, the statement said.

This video, produced with HARRACH’s assistance, was secured on the al-fallujah website, known for distributing Islamist content, on 17 January 2009 and later found in several Internet forums.
In the video, HARRACH discusses Germany’s social, economic and political situation. He announces that the German troops in Afghanistan should expect to be attacked by Al Qaeda and their allies, the Taliban, and links this announcement to an appeal to the German population to make the right choice in the 2009 Bundestag elections. He also states that the Mujahedin are not interested in a conflict with Germany, but that Germany would not be spared if it did not stay away from “evil”. From the context, it is apparent that with “evil”, he is referring to Germany’s role in the fight against international terrorism in general and its contribution to the coalition troops in Afghanistan in particular.
In another Internet video distributed via the Al Qaeda media office on 26 February 2009 entitled “Der Islam und die Finanzkrise”(Islam and the financial crisis), HARRACH presents his view of the causes and effects of the global finance and economic crisis. He calls it a punishment by God and says the only way to solve it is by introducing a social order based on the Koran and Sharia law. In the video, Harrach says that future statements will be forthcoming via As-Sahab.
According to investigations by the Federal Public Prosecutor, there is good reason to believe that HARRACH has been a member of the foreign terrorist organization Al Qaeda since March 2007. The threats he has distributed via the Al Qaeda media office demonstrate his willingness as a member of Al Qaeda to participate in its terrorist activity all the way to suicide attacks.”

Two Muslim converts and two Turks go on trial in a bomb-proof courtroom in Düsseldorf today accused of plotting to blow up German civilians and US soldiers.
“The world will burn!” boasted an intercepted e-mail sent between the accused, who are alleged to have wanted to wage an Islamic holy war in the heart of Europe.
Three of the men — Fritz Gelowicz, 29, Daniel Schneider, 23 and the Turkish national Adem Yilmaz, 30 — are accused of attending a training camp on the Afghan-Pakistani frontier run by an Uzbek-based terror organisation known as the Islamic Jihad Union.
Intelligence services say that it has links with al-Qaeda. Using detonators — supplied, the state prosecutor claims, by Attila Selek, 24, a German citizen of Turkish origin — the gang prepared bombs with the explosive force of 410kg (904lb) of TNT, to be set off in and around the US Ramstein air base and other targets. The bombers in London on July 7, 2005, had 4kg of explosive.
It is alleged that the gang wanted the attacks to influence a parliamentary debate extending the mandate of the German Army in Afghanistan in the autumn of 2007.
The men were caught in an elaborate police sting operation in September that year. At the high point of the undercover surveillance, about 600 policemen were involved, fed with information from the German intelligence service and the CIA.
When the alleged plotters rented a remote holiday home and allegedly started to gather material for the bombing campaign the police encircled the region, disguising themselves as villagers, foresters and petrol station attendants.
As soon as the men left the cottage the police would change the vats of hydrogen peroxide for a diluted solution. They were following the example of Scotland Yard detectives, who while secretly monitoring terrorists

Germany: Big Terrorism Trial Begins

The alleged plot, which was in its final stages when it was thwarted by police in September 2007, would have been the most destructive in Germany’s postwar history.
A fifth suspect, believed to be a central figure, is being sought by police.
After receiving a tip from an American intelligence source, the three Germans and a Turk were arrested in a raid which found them ready to strike. Police discovered hydrogen peroxide-based explosives with more potency than used in the 2004 Madrid bombings or the 2005 London attack. Targets for their terror attacks reportedly were the American airbase in Ramstein and cities of Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich.”

According to several German news reports, Breininger and al-Malla met in Egypt and traveled to Pakistan through Iran.
Breininger converted to Islam a little more than year ago, according to the articles, and was recruited into the IJU by Schneider. He told his family he wanted to be called “Abdul Rafar,” and told his grandmother he no longer considered himself German, then broke off contact with his family and his pregnant girlfriend, according to Focus.”

On 3 May a message announcing the death of Eric Breininger (b. 3 August 1987) and three of his fellow combatants was posted on several German jihadist websites. Breininger, who travelled to the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the winter 2007, was one of the most infamous German jihadists. From Waziristan Breininger, a.k.a. “Abdul Ghaffar al-Almani”, sent several videotaped messages to the jihadist community in Germany, asking them to join the jihad or at least to support it financially. Since September 2008 the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) searched for Breininger, based on his assumed affiliation with a foreign terrorist organization.
A day after the announcement of his death, Breininger’s alleged autobiography, entitled Mein Weg nach Jannah (My Way to Paradise) was released on jihadi websites. The 108-page document mainly deals with Breiningers path into violent islamist militancy. It is not clear however, if Breininger wrote the document himself. In the messages he delivered from Waziristan, he spoke a very simple and often grammatically incorrect German. By contrast, the language of the published book is far more elaborate and correct. On the other hand, the content and details in the book argue for the authenticity of the document. Interestingly, the spelling of names differs throughout the book, which could indicate a collaborative effort. So we can assume that Breininger either 1) wrote it down by himself and had some help from his friends, or 2) told his story to some of his fellow jihadists and they wrote it down, as Spiegel journalist Yassin Musharbash suggested. Overall, however, we favour the first assumption.
After stating the reasons for writing down his autobiography, that is to say to disprove the lies spread by the media and to guide Muslims and non-Muslims to the path of Allah, he describes his conversion.”

Rioters in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, have burned down a school building and thrown stones at police in a second night of disturbances.
The trouble began on Monday after a group of youths in a suburb with a mainly immigrant population were refused entry to a school dance.

Police said the rioters threw stones at the fire engines, preventing them from reaching the school building before it burned to the ground. The youths also attacked a police station.
Rinkeby is home to a large number of first- and second-generation immigrants. Many of them are from Somalia, so the area is sometimes nicknamed Little Mogadishu.

Lyon, France - A 15-year-old French schoolboy sprayed a teacher with teargas after she described al-Qaeda as a “terrorist group”, she told reporters on Tuesday as prosecutors began their investigation.
“I had just explained that the attacks on September 11, 2001 were carried out by the terrorist organisation al-Qaeda, as is written in the text book,” said the history teacher, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“He stood up and declared that al-Qaeda is not terrorist and that neither is the Taliban,” she said, adding that the boy had then pulled out a spray can and doused her and a teaching assistant with teargas.

An Iraqi-born yob who spat on a World War II hero’s medals on Remembrance Day yesterday escaped jail.
Serwan Abdullah, 23, targeted Timothy House while he was wearing his late grandfather’s honours after a commemorative parade.
Mr House, 44, who was recovering from a broken hip and was also looking after a 91-year-old wheelchair-bound veteran when the attack happened, said he was left ‘outraged and very angry’.
Abdullah showed no remorse and told officers he had done ‘nothing wrong’ adding: ‘F*** him and f*** his medals.’
The medals Mr House was wearing were awarded to former paratrooper Company Sgt Major Steadman who fought at Dunkirk and in North Africa.
During an illustrious career he was awarded an array of medals including the Palestine Medal, The Africa Star, The Italy Star and the 1939-1945 Star.
In a statement read at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Mr House said: ‘This is one of the most important days of the year for me because my grandfather fought in Word War II.
‘Since he died in 1991 I have always worn his medals for him. I have been attending Remembrance Day parades for as long as I can remember.’
Falklands veteran Chris Purcell, a parade martial with the Royal British Legion in Portsmouth, described Abdullah’s actions as ‘despicable’.
The 50-year-old former petty officer said: ‘To spit on the medals of a man who fought for our country is disgusting. It’s a huge insult.
‘Everyone in this country should be able to wear their medals and the medals of their relatives with pride.’

22 hours ago WASHINGTON (AFP) — American recruits of Somali extremists addressed a press conference in the conflict-wracked country this week to rally other youths to join their jihad (holy war), a US monitoring group said Friday. On April 5, “two American members of the Mujahideen Youth Movement (MYM) identified as Abu-Muslim and Abu Yaxye” spoke at the news conference and acknowledged that “many” Somali-Americans are “all over Somalia to join the jihad,” said the SITE Intelligence Group.
The pair said they are “Somali youth” from the United States and are stationed near the southern port of Kismayo.
“Some of us are still in training, others are on the frontline of the jihad.
