I would hate to be associated with the likes of Corrine Brown. I would love it if creative private interests found a way to make rail travel a profitable option. It has untapped potential as the backbone of a new tourism and leisure industry, for example, rather than as a shabby socialist substitute for the Interstates. To force it on the country as a means of social engineering, which is what these hacks are trying to do, burns my butt. Plus, it won't work.

You can't point to ANY mode of transportation that doesn't require "gobs" of tax money to support.

The difference, Willie, is your particular wet dream requires gobs of tax money from people who don't use it !

Amtrak heads for ridership record in 2010, chief says

There is rapidly growing demand for high-speed rail.

Build it and they will come!

*Why rail works in Japan?*

Because Japan is like, the size of California?

Build it and they will come!

Finance it (with your own money) and they will build.

Private interests could make a rail system work—if the government would get out of the way. But it won’t, of course.

I don’t want to take a train or a bus to work.
Ever.

You can hop back and forth to work on a pogo stick for all I care.
Just as long as it doesn't deprive more productive commuters of the efficient passenger rail systems that THEY need to be more competitive.

Fine... all you have to do is paste a Post-it® Note on your 1040A,
and the money will get spent somewhere else instead.

That is a GREAT link...I like the way the guy writes, too. I have never heard of him before, but that could just be me.

I know what you mean. You could have to sit there and watch the "Amberlamps" guy get pounded to a pulp by the "I AM A MOTHERF***R" guy, and hope one of them doesn't pull out a gun and start shooting.

LOL...I try that every year, but I think they just increase my taxes to make up for pet projects I said I didn’t want the money spent on...

Yes! I LOVED is. It is EXACTLY what I would have put into words. As far as I know, everything he says is SPOT ON. His ridicule of ethanol is well founded, it is a stupid and wasteful effort. We should be building nuclear reactors, developing and exporting pebble bed technology, finding effective ways to extract shale oil and so on.

I am one of those who has long said that I would rather live in the vicinity of a oil derrick or a nuclear plant than one of this gargantuan windmills...

I knew you were being sarcastic - these boondoggle projects always cost taxpayers money to run. But, the companies who build them probably turn a profit. I’m not against a business making profits, I’m just against having the taxpayer foot the bill to run the damn things. Just like you!
