DES MOINES - Sarah Palin's endorsement of ex-Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad had some Iowans wondering Friday how rogue the former Alaska governor is.

"Sarah Palin has demonstrated that she's either not running for president and, therefore, doesn't care about her political future or that she lacks any understanding of the Iowans who would have made up her base of support," said Eric Woolson, campaign manager for Branstad's chief rival in Tuesday's primary election, Sioux City business consultant Bob Vander Plaats.

"This is not about going rogue. It's not about defeating the establishment, but about embracing the establishment," Vander Plaats said before a Cedar Rapids event with his own endorser - TV and movie icon and conservative commentator Chuck Norris.

The response on Palin's Facebook page to Thursday's endorsement of Branstad was relatively mixed.

Might be perplexing, but certainly a step above pimping for Fiorina.

Where does Palin get the idea that she has to endorse anyone? Is she getting paid to endorse and who is pushing her to do it?

I don’t think I can respect her any longer because of her ‘endorsements’, they seem so contrived, unnecessary, and conflicting.

Hmmmm....Iowa, now what happens in Iowa every four years that would make a potential presidential candidate want to be in good stead with a sitting Iowa governor...

hile another worried she was being "co-opted" by the GOP political mainstream.

She's always been part of the OP( formerly the GOP) mainstream as evident by the fact she accepted being the running mate with socialist McAmnesty.

Not perplexing at all. The woman has the best political instincts of anyone out there right now. She chose to back a winner. In IOWA!

Back in March Mr Vander Platts had this to say about Governor Palin:
Where I live in Sioux City, Iowa, I’m not Sarah Palin, I can’t see Russia, but I can see South Dakota. You know who ranks No. 1 in the country for hospitable business environment? South Dakota,” he said. “I tell people all over the state, as soon as we make Sioux City, Iowa, competitive with North Sioux City, South Dakota, we’ve opened up this state for business.

As a result , he now has to deal with this:

Iowa Poll: A Register Exclusive Since 1943
Former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad holds a 2-to-1 edge over his closest rival for the Republican nomination for governor, and is seen as the strongest candidate on the attributes most important to voters in Tuesday’s primary for governor, according to The Des Moines Register’s Iowa Poll.

According to the poll, Branstad stands out as the best in the three-way GOP race at bringing new jobs, cutting government spending and being able to beat Democratic Gov. Chet Culver — qualities the poll respondents identified as top priorities.

A solid majority — 57 percent — of likely GOP primary voters say they expect to vote for Branstad, a former four-term governor returning to campaign politics after a 12-year hiatus.

I loved Palin until recently. Her endorsements either show her to be an idiot or bought and paid for by the establishment. I am out.

Yeah, really perplexing.......

I can't imagine why she would want the support of a sitting Iowa govervor. I mean, what is she thinking? / sarcasm

And I can't imagine why the head of the opposition campaign is complaining either. Gosh, why would that be?

I look forward to the many highly intelligent posters coming to say how they've just lost all respect, how could she, blah, blah, blah..........the 1%er chorus......

Gee, I thought someone who endorsed who she wanted, when she wanted, without seeking the permission of someone else was “rogue” or independent or whatever else you might say. Now I know that only if she endorses who certain people want her to endorse that she is “going rogue”.

I disagree with her on her endorsements of McCain and Fiorina, but I agree with her more than any other national political figure on the whole spread of issues.

I like Sarah Palin, but I’m incredibly confused.

She has stated over and over she’ll endorse “commin sense candidates”; candidates with solid conservative views and values. But then I see posters say she’s endorsing this guy because she wants to be in good standing with Iowa’s governor.

So is she endorsing people she feels will be best for the country, or endorsing people she feels will be best for her political future?

And I’m not attacking her. I like her. But her motives are all over the map...
