June 10 will be a silent anniversary, but one worth noting by those alarmed at the past year's assault on free institutions. It was last June 10 when the federal government tossed aside the option of proven, workable bankruptcy procedures in order to nationalize Chrysler on behalf of its union allies.

This piece is a must read, if only as concise capsule of the ramifications of the GM takeover.

The only disagreement I have is with the term "crony capitalism." "Crony capitalism" is no euphemism for Fascism, which is what we're facing.

Mitch Daniels is my governor. He is quiet and unassuming, but a very effective governor.

It is a very intelligently written piece. Honestly, I wanted to tell him so somehow.

It made me think, "wow, I wasn't the only one who thought this sh*t was crazy."

He has an editorial in the WSJ every 4-6 months. All well written and very thoughtful.

So how did his state restore the rule of law?

The state of Indiana sued on behalf of it's pensions which had invested in GM debt -- not a lot of money in todays terms, well under $100 mm if I recall. Going by memory now...I think he said a district court refused to hear it, but somehow the Supreme court overturned the district court's decision, and they recovered court costs in the process.

Not a total victory, but a fight for the rule of law, as advertised.

I'll have to reread it to make sure I got it right, 'cause I'm pretty sure I'm leaving out a step or two.

But again, his description of what the GM takeover was and is, is prefect and for any elected official to state so is like a breath of fresh air in an otherwise suffocating time.
