Pat wants it both ways in this fence-straddler. "While Israel has the right to X, she shouldn't have done Y in accomplishing it" is the formulation of a moralistic second-guesser who wants the world to be other than it is. "While the U.S. had the right to oppose Hitler, it shouldn't have killed all those German civilians" is a classic example.

Likening this to Selma, Alabama is a grotesque analogy - nobody was shooting rockets into Alabama. This is a war that the moralists want to pretend isn't one.

This is the one area of Pat Buchanan's public life that has always left me scratching my head. He has always been so entirely anti-Israel that I doubt Israel could ever do anything that would cause Buchanan to even remain ambivalent. I can't believe that he is pro terrorist. That makes no sense. He is just 'knee jerk' anti Israel.
