The officials say that Israel’s deadly attack on a flotilla trying to break the siege and the resulting international condemnation create a new opportunity to push for increased engagement with the Palestinian Authority and a less harsh policy toward Gaza.

I agree, a new tack is needed...any ship ignoring the blockade should just be sunk.

After all, Obama has done such a stellar job of keeping the US, and especially our southern border, safe and secure, he’s well qualified to lecture Israel. [Additional comments deleted by poster.]

I think Obama should take some if his vacations to go down and board these ships instead of Israel.
I'm sure he can talk them into going legally to the ports of Egypt or Israel for inspection. >>>NOT!

“The Obama administration considers Israel’s blockade of Gaza to be untenable...”

What about Egypt’s blockade? Is that tenable?

Sharon won the election because Israelis had gotten sick and tired of Labor’s surrender policies. Then Sharon decided he wanted to leave a “legacy,” and surrendered control of the Gaza Strip.

A gigantic mistake. I have always thought that maybe Sharon had a small stroke before his big one, because his actions in office, including the Kadima Party business, were so unlike his earlier heroism.

Those ‘U.S. officials’ have chosen their side, and would standby and watch another holocaust without so much as a word of protest. Under Bush, the Palestinians hated us because they feared us. Under Obama, EVERYBODY hates us but nobody fears us.

plans to press for another approach to ensure Israel’s security

How, precisely, do they propose Israel keep weapons (including ballistic missiles) from being shipped to the Gaza terrorists? A Naval blockade is the only way.

The poor people in Gaza and the West Bank need to be relocated to Arab nations. This could have all been avoided if the Arabs had done the right thing and taken them in forty years ago.

Doesn’t the United States and the Kenyan Mislim leader have enough problems right here with our own country? Why are we telling other sovereign countries what to do in theirs.?

But the American officials said they believed that even Mr. Netanyahu understood that a new approach was needed.

Amazing how the enemedia and especially NY Slimes writers can write a whole story from "anonymous officials" and get into the head of Mr. Netanyahu to tell us what he thinks. Preposterous!
