VENICE, La., June 2 (Reuters) - The White House on Wednesday approved the construction of five sand berms that BP Plc will fund to shield the Louisiana coast from damage from a giant oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana's governor said.
"We have just received word from the White House that they are going to require BP to fund the five remaining segments," Governor Bobby Jindal said at a news conference.
The Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers have already approved construction of one dredged sand segment, and the White House action allows five others, Jindal said.
The Republican governor has heaped criticism on BP and President Barack Obama over the past few days, accusing both parties of responding too slowly to a slick that has damaged over 140 miles (235 km) of Louisiana's fragile coastline.
"Our federal government does not need to be making excuses for BP," Jindal said at the news conference, only moments before he received word that the White House had approved the berm construction. "Every day they wait, every day they make us wait, we're losing our battle to protect our coast."

FINALLY!! .....but isn’t it too little...too late???
Better late than never but all the existing damage is Obama’s fault.
Send Obozo the bill. his has not spent the Nobel Peace Prize yet, so he can give it to Louisana. Plus he has 5 million dollars that he wrongly robbed from the American people that he declared to the iRS. So he has a couple of million he can spare, or he can payback the American people for the defense of his birth certificate legal battles. he has enough of his own to spend foolishly, so either he tiurns over the money to Louisan and others he should receive no payment for the lack of doing any work in America. Based on job performance he is a failure.
Jindal should have found his pair and done this weeks ago. Too little, too late.
Well Sarah Palin told him to do just that.

They don’t need no stinking approval!!!!

Spot on. I have no idea why he waited. His lack of action on this shows that he lacks the spine to be considered for national office.
He should have told the feds to stick their permission in the same holes they have their heads in.
Agreed. Everything he does is calculated for political purposes.
We need a DAY COUNT like thw Hostage Crisis on Nightline....43 days as of today!! YIKERS!!!!
I had to backup and reread, is Jendel really just another POS pub?
Yesterday.
Also, did Sarah ignore the federal government and drill in ANWR?
First of all, there was no oil spewing out at the rate of a million barrels a day, and destroying everything in it's path at ANWR, like there is in this oil spill right now.
Secondly, you can't do that on federal land, which ANWR is.
The sand berms however, could be done by Jindal. He needed the feds on board because of the cost.
It took 16 days to respond to Louisianas request to build 24 berms to try and prevent the oil from reaching Louisianas marshes and shoreline. When the Obama Administration finally did answer, they allowed only six berms and said the Federal Government would pay for one! http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/100747-palin-pushes-jindal-to-build-barrier-islands-without-feds-approval?page=3#comments
I guess I don't see where Palin was ahead of the curve on this. If she had said it a month ago, sure, I'd give her credit, but her “I told you so” AFTER Jindal’s impassioned plea yesterday rings opportunistic to me.
The GOP really does eat its own.
