BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Federal officials just extended a ban on red snapper fishing off the east coast of Florida, but not everyone knows about the extension.

The ban was originally set to expire June 2 after six months, but now it will be in place through December.

A lot of people who work in the commercial and recreational fishing industries get bulletins that update them on changes to fishing regulations, but the feds never sent one saying the snapper ban had been extended.

William Golding said he has gotten call after call from people wondering if the red snapper ban is almost over.

“People are ready to go catch them. Everybody believes it’s June 2nd,” he said.

The government banned fishing red snapper off the east coast from Central Florida to North Carolina. Some researchers believe the species has been overfished and deserves protection.

While federal regulators decide how best to do that, they have extended the ban until December.

That's right, folks. Fishing is going to be severely impacted by the BP spill. You'd think the FedGov would figure out something to help the fishermen here in Florida.

Instead, what do they do? They just extended a BS ban on catching Red Snapper till December.

Sometimes I think the National Socialist Democrats Party is truly clueless.

Reminds me of a joke about a red snapper that shouldn’t be told in mixed company.

As long as it’s not a taco joke I think we should be OK!

My son is an avid fisherman and he just came back from a weekend in Hatteras. He said the local fisherman are livid over the Feds shutting down key beaches in the area to shore fisherman. The fish are now running and beach traffic is banned so no one can gain access. The good ol local boys know how to fight. All the local businesses are banding together and refusing to service the Feds in the area. Shunning is an age old practice that sends a strong message. I told my son that the gas station operators should also join in and shut the pumps off whenever a Fed vehicle tries to get gas. I do not believe there is a law yet that says you can not discriminate against a Fed.

I can’t believe this isn’t getting more media play.
